Position: Bus Monitor (.852), Permanent Support Staff
Hours: 6 hours per day, Benefits Eigible
Position Summary: Bus Monitors provide assistance, supervision, and ensure a safe environment for students traveling to or from school on district provided transportation. Additionally, bus monitors establish a positive rapport with students and staff throughout the school community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Travel on school provided transportation vehicles in order to provide supervision for students traveling to and from school each.
- Adhere to and enforce applicable discipline policies and procedures, and monitor student behavior to ensure a safe ride for all students.
- Report to appropriate administrator issues that may arise with students during the transport or during on and off boarding.
- Monitor student behavior and report issues and problems in a timely manner to appropriate administrator.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student and district matters.
- Assist students with physical disabilities (i.e. maneuvering wheelchair, lifting, etc.) during the transport and during on and off boarding of the vehicle.
- Perform other duties related to the position, which may be assigned by the supervising principal.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is may be required to lift objects/students from the floor or waist to the waist or above the shoulders.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision of regular sized text and color vision.
- Specific hearing abilities required by this job include perceiving normal oral conversation in person, over a public address system, and on the telephone with little to moderate background noise.
- The employee is required to have the ability to verbally and physically de-escalate student behavior using the approved techniques (this includes physical restraint).
REQUIRED PAPERWORK: In order to begin employment in any PA public school, all employees are required to complete mandatory paperwork. Background employment clearances must be completed within the last year to be valid and include:
- PA State Police Clearance (Act 34)
- Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151)
- FBI Fingerprints (Act 114) IndentoGo
Some additional paperwork includes Arrest/Conviction Report form, PA Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure (Act 168), physician’s health form and recently completed TB test.
