POSITION TITLE: PT Facility Maintenance Worker
Non-seasonal, part-time position. Flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings, weekend and holidays.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Responsible for maintaining all Cottonwood Heights Parks and Recreation Service Area facilities, and amenities to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable atmosphere for patrons. Visually inspects all equipment, machinery, and building components for proper and safe operation and cleanliness. Monitors and maintains swimming pools and ice rink, uses appropriate chemical application procedures, operates machinery, and performs routine maintenance and repairs. Ensures that the Facilities Maintenance Manager and/or designee’s directions are carried out in a timely manner.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position requires strong maintenance skills to ensure the efficient and smooth operation of equipment and machinery throughout the Service Area facilities. Must also have the ability to follow instructions clearly and efficiently. Incumbent must be able to work independently and be attentive to detail and familiar with all related maintenance procedures to successfully execute this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
Assumes responsibility for effectively and efficiently maintaining all Service Area facilities and parks and their related equipment and machinery.
- Ensures maintenance of ice rink. Makes ice and levels ice with Zamboni at appropriate times, edges corners, cuts and replaces Plexiglas and sideboards, keeps Zamboni in working order, and maintains ice compressors.
- Ensures proper maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machinery including the Zamboni, ice edger, scissor lift, auto-scrubbers, vacuums, vehicles, and all related hand tools and equipment.
- Monitors air conditioning and heating systems. Checks and repairs motors and fans and maintains steam valves and dampers.
- Performs preventive maintenance, plumbing, electrical, and all other "household" repairs throughout Recreation Center.
- Ensures maintenance of swimming pool areas and hot tub. Keeps water chemistry in compliance with health codes, checks, cleans and adjusts filter systems, maintains chemical feed systems, and keeps all pool hardware in safe, working order (diving boards, railings, etc.).
- Answers and responds to calls on the radio during their scheduled hours.
- Keeps all facility areas safe for public use.
Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective working relations with staff and with management.
- Attends and participates in meetings as required.
- Completes all assigned paperwork, documentation, and work order requests.
- Keeps management well informed of area activities and of any significant problems and concerns.
- Assists Parks and Recreation Service Area personnel and outside service providers as needed.
Assumes responsibility for other duties as assigned.
- Follows safety procedures.
- Keeps work areas clean and free of clutter.
- Assists with snow removal.
- Completes duties assigned by the Facility Maintenance Manager and/or designee.
- Keeps Facility Maintenance Manager well informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
- Performs miscellaneous maintenance, cleaning, and other requested tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions:
- Worker subject to changing temperatures
- Works both inside and outside.
- Must work in very noisy environments

- The worker is subject to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation that affect the skin or respiratory system.
QUALIFICATIONS:Training/Education/Certification
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Pool and Spa certification within one year of employment, Gas/Chlorine and chemical safety training, Zamboni driver training, forklift training.
- Valid driver's license and must provide copy of their Motor Vehicle Record prior to employment.
- Approved Criminal Background Investigation check if over 18 years if age.
Required Knowledge:
- Practical experience or certification in at least three of the following areas: HVAC, swimming pool maintenance, ice rink maintenance, plumbing systems, electrical systems, rough carpentry, auto or small engine repair.
- Understanding of related safety and OSHA requirements.
- Basic computer skills.
