Tree & Land Clearing Specialist – Customer Project Advisor

Cottonwood Construction
Atlanta, GA Full Time | Part Time
POSTED ON 10/13/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/10/2027

Job Summary

Cottonwood Construction Co. is seeking a knowledgeable, personable, and sales-driven Tree & Land Clearing Specialist to help property owners throughout Metro Atlanta understand their land clearing, vegetation management, tree removal, and grading needs.

This is primarily a customer-facing consultation and sales position, not a heavy equipment operator or general landscaping labor position.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of Georgia's native trees, invasive plants, vines, bamboo, brush, and common vegetation challenges. They should be comfortable explaining land clearing techniques, identifying property issues, recommending practical solutions, and guiding customers through the process of transforming their property.

Your primary responsibility will be to speak with prospective customers over the phone, review property photos and project details, assess their needs, recommend appropriate services, and help customers move forward with scheduling their projects.

You will serve as a trusted advisor, combining technical knowledge of land management with excellent communication and customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities1. Customer Consultation & Project Assessment

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers requesting land clearing, forestry mulching, tree removal, vegetation management, and grading services.
  • Conduct detailed phone consultations to understand customer goals, property conditions, project requirements, and budgets.
  • Review customer-provided photographs, videos, satellite imagery, and property information to help evaluate potential projects.
  • Educate customers on the most effective and cost-efficient approaches to clearing and improving their property.
  • Explain differences between forestry mulching, traditional land clearing, brush cutting, selective tree removal, stump removal, and grading.
  • Identify opportunities to recommend additional services based on the customer's property conditions and long-term goals.
  • Determine whether projects can be estimated remotely or require an on-site evaluation.
  • Provide preliminary pricing guidance based on established company pricing structures.
  • Guide customers through the quotation, scheduling, and project preparation process.

2. Tree, Plant & Vegetation Expertise

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of common Metro Atlanta tree species, including oak, pine, sweetgum, maple, poplar, hickory, and other native or commonly occurring trees.
  • Identify invasive vegetation such as kudzu, English ivy, Chinese privet, Japanese honeysuckle, wisteria, and other aggressive vines or shrubs.
  • Understand bamboo growth patterns, root and rhizome systems, removal methods, and strategies for preventing regrowth.
  • Recognize common vegetation problems involving overgrown brush, invasive vines, saplings, dense undergrowth, and unwanted trees.
  • Explain how different plant species respond to forestry mulching, mechanical removal, cutting, and herbicide treatments.
  • Help customers distinguish desirable native vegetation from invasive or unwanted plant growth.
  • Recommend appropriate vegetation preservation, selective clearing, and removal strategies based on customer preferences and property conditions.
  • Recognize potential tree hazards, including dead limbs, declining trees, leaning trees, and vegetation affecting structures or access areas, and refer situations requiring advanced assessment to qualified arborists.

3. Land Clearing & Grading Knowledge

  • Understand the fundamentals of forestry mulching, mechanical clearing, excavation, grading, and site preparation.
  • Explain how skid steers, forestry mulchers, excavators, and other equipment are used for different property improvement projects.
  • Assess basic property challenges such as uneven terrain, excessive vegetation, drainage concerns, erosion, and difficult equipment access.
  • Discuss solutions for clearing residential lots, wooded acreage, fence lines, driveways, and future construction areas.
  • Understand basic grading concepts, including slope, drainage direction, soil movement, and site leveling.
  • Identify when a project may require additional engineering, drainage planning, permits, or professional site evaluations.
  • Coordinate with field crews to confirm project scope, equipment requirements, and customer expectations.

4. Sales, Scheduling & Customer Relationship Management

  • Convert incoming customer inquiries into qualified estimates and scheduled projects.
  • Build customer confidence through clear explanations, technical knowledge, and professional communication.
  • Follow up with prospective customers to answer questions, address concerns, and secure project commitments.
  • Maintain accurate customer information, project notes, photographs, estimates, and follow-up activities in the company's CRM.
  • Work with management and field operations to maintain an organized project scheduling calendar.
  • Identify opportunities to increase project value through relevant additional services.
  • Support monthly sales and revenue goals while maintaining a high standard of customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain communication with customers before and after projects to ensure a positive experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in tree services, forestry, landscaping, vegetation management, land clearing, arboriculture, or a related field.
  • Strong familiarity with trees, shrubs, invasive plants, and vegetation commonly found throughout Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.
  • Ability to identify common tree species, invasive vines, bamboo, and other problematic vegetation.
  • General understanding of land clearing, forestry mulching, tree removal, and grading techniques.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to homeowners in simple, understandable terms.
  • Strong customer service skills with a consultative, solution-oriented approach.
  • Comfortable speaking with customers over the phone throughout the workday.
  • Ability to review property photos, maps, and customer descriptions to help determine project requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable using computers, CRM software, scheduling systems, and basic digital mapping tools.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with field operations and management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an arborist, tree service estimator, forestry technician, landscaping consultant, or land clearing estimator.
  • Experience preparing estimates or selling residential tree services, landscaping, grading, or land improvement projects.
  • Familiarity with Georgia invasive plant species and vegetation control methods.
  • Knowledge of herbicide treatments, bamboo eradication, and invasive vine management.
  • Experience using Google Earth, GIS mapping tools, or property measurement software.
  • Familiarity with skid steers, excavators, forestry mulchers, and other land clearing equipment.
  • ISA Certified Arborist credential is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with CRM software and managing inbound sales leads.

What Success Looks Like

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Confidently explain to a homeowner how to address an overgrown, wooded, or uneven property.
  • Identify common trees, invasive vines, bamboo, and vegetation problems from customer descriptions and photographs.
  • Recommend the appropriate clearing or grading service without unnecessarily upselling customers.
  • Provide customers with a clear understanding of project expectations, preliminary pricing, and next steps.
  • Build trust through strong technical knowledge and communication.
  • Consistently turn qualified customer inquiries into scheduled, profitable projects.
  • Help Cottonwood Construction Co. deliver an exceptional customer experience from the initial consultation through project completion.
