FTE- .5 DEFINITION OF POSITION The RSP teacher works with children who have been identified as individuals with exceptional needs. These pupils have serious academic deficiencies and they may exhibit behavior, neurological and/or emotional problems that interfere with satisfactory progress in the regular classroom. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Plan and implement an individualized program for each child. 2. Provide individualized and small group instruction that parallels regular classroom curriculum and that remediates learning problems. 3. Involve parents in program planning, and confer frequently with parents and professional staff members on each child's progress. 4. Assist other professional staff members in the diagnosis of learning disorders, development of planned remediation, and evaluation of pupil's progress. 5. Provide appropriate physical and psychological environment to enhance learning and self-image, and reinforce constructive behavior, attitudes, and social skills. 6. Plan and implement a program of evaluation to determine academic and social growth. Keep appropriate records of progress. 7. Keep abreast of trends and developments in Special Education, and seek out creative educational practices to improve the quality of classroom experiences. 8. Serve as a contributing member of the IEP Team in the evaluation and placement of children for the Resource Specialists Program. 9. Perform other duties assigned by the administrator.
