Job Summary
DEFINITION OF POSITION: Under the supervision and direction of a certificated employee, the English Learner Instructional and Assessment Assistant will perform English language development activities, provide intense learning experiences for students in assigned areas, and do related work as required. The individual assigned to this position must have an understanding of cultural differences, demonstrate a passion for education and a willingness to share that passion with students whose English skills make obtaining their education more challenging and requiring additional support. Knowledge of: - English Language Development strategies - Correct English usage, punctuation, and spelling Ability to: - Speak standard English - Assume responsibility for supervision of students in small groups - Work effectively with students and staff - Learn and utilize basic methods and procedures to be followed in instructional settings - Prepare and organize instructional materials - Read, write and speak Spanish (preferred) - Work in a positive manner with students and staff members, while exhibiting patience and compassion - Work with frequent interruptions
Requirements / Qualifications
- High school diploma or the equivalent, and - Two years of college (48 units), or A. A. degree (or higher) - Bilingual - Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction. - Fingerprint clearance prior to employment - TB clearance prior to employment - Compliance with current health mandates - Completion of mandated trainings - Obtain basic first aid and CPR certifications
