DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following are typical duties and responsibilities for positions in this classification. Any single position may or may not perform all of these tasks, and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed below. - Assist students in the areas of class work, classroom assignments, classroom conduct, and tests, including the adaptation of such - Facilitate age-appropriate social interactions, activities, and instruction for all students - Deliver instruction individually and in small groups as directed - Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize own work to meet deadlines and accomplish assigned tasks within established timelines - Encourage students toward increased independence and self-reliance - Develop rapport with all students, being fair, consistent, and respectful - Observe students' mental and physical health; report any potential problems to instructor - Maintain confidentiality of individual student and school-related information - Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during workday, including parents, students, other staff members, and service providers - Knowledge of Standard English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form - Take appropriate action in emergency situations, following procedures in a calm, reasonable manner - Assist in the supervision of students in classroom, school grounds, other school activities, before, during and after school - Accompany and supervise children in library or computer activities - Assist in the arrangement of field trips; accompany class on field trips; assist in the supervision of class on filed trips - Acceptance of and sensitivity to cultural diversity - Recognize, stimulate, and solicit student interest, input, and participation to the fullest extent of each student’s potential - Provide indoor/outdoor recreational activities based on student need and certificated s

Experience/Training: - Positive behavior modification, or willingness to be trained - Curricular interventions, or willingness to be trained in curricular interventions such as Response to Intervention techniques - Prefer a minimum of two years working directly with students, especially students IEP and/or behavior support plans Education: - High School diploma or equivalent is required - Some college course work related to education is desirable

Knowledge of: - Behavior management strategies - District Curricula - Appropriate evasion and restraint strategies (Managing Student Behavior, ProAct or similar) - Standard office machines, i.e. fax, network printers, and scanners; computers, - Basic First Aid and CPR procedures and techniques - Bilingual (Spanish) desirable Ability to: - Assist in directed instruction, including: a) Vocational skills, job- and work-related tasks b) Academics: reading, writing, math concepts c) Motor skills; physical education, body awareness d) Speech/language: communication skills e) Leisure/recreation: recess, games, outings, breaks f) Domestic skills (food preparation/housekeeping) g) Self-help (toileting, feeding, personal hygiene, dressing, etiquette and manners) - Maintain an effective learning environment through student supervision, class management, and student discipline; follows student’s IEP, other individual plan, or Positive Behavior Plan - Perform a variety of clerical tasks, including typing, making copies, collating, gathering resource information/materials, filing, answering phones, taking and relaying messages, word processing, preparing adapted materials, using various computer applications - Contribute relevant feedback/information on student progress through observation, interaction, and maintaining accurate records - Work independently as necessary - Obtain basic first aid and CPR certifications - Pass proficiency test or meet educational requirements - Pass physical examination
