Position: Meat Department Sanitation Assistant Classification: Service Assistant
Position Summary
Cleans and sanitizes Meat Department, including meat room, cooler, equipment, and utensils. Re-stocks supplies.
Job Duties/Essential Functions
- Cleans and sanitizes the meat room. Washes, applies cleaning agents, wipes, and mops all surfaces. Empties drain screen.
- Dismantles equipment, such as band saw, grinder, and wrapper. Washes, rinses, and sanitizes removable parts in commercial dishwasher or by hand in three compartment sink. Wipes down stationary parts with cleaning agent and sprays with pressure washer.
- Washes small containers and utensils using commercial dishwasher or by hand in three compartment sink.
- Re-stocks meat room supplies and boxes of meat up to 95 lbs.
- Collects cardboard and trash; operates trash compactor, cardboard baler. Takes laundry to laundry service pick-up area.
- Logs sanitation procedures performed on daily report and complies with health code. Follows safety and security procedures and reads labels for proper use and precautions of cleaning products.
- Assists with stocking cases and follows department production procedures and standards for quality and consistency of finished product.
- Operates meat grinder. Dumps meat into top of machine and checks fat content of each batch from grinder. Follows proper department production procedures and standards for quality and consistency of finished product. Operates wrapping machine and puts meat on large trays of large, wheeled carts.
- Provides and ensures prompt and courteous member service.
- Ensures proper cleanup and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Regular and reliable workplace attendance at your assigned location.
Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery
- Commercial grinder, wheeled racks, wrapping machine, pressure washer, trash compactor, cardboard baler.
Non-Essential Functions
- Assists with front end duties as necessary.
- Assists in other departments of the warehouse as necessary.

Experience, Skills, Education & Licenses/Certifications
Required:
Hazard Communication and JHA (initial assignment), Costco Hazardous Materials DOT Training Course: Part 1 (within 30 days and then every year), Hazmat Universal Waste Training- Short Version (within 30 days and then every year), Option
STOP Training (within 30 days), Level 1 Food Safety Certification (within 30 days), Food Handler's Permit (prior to working in a foods area and only where required by state or local jurisdiction).
- Must be current on annual safety training within 30 days of hire.
Recommended:
High School Diploma or GED preferred. Trade School preferred.
