Job Summary
Duties
- Perform comprehensive eye examinations and assess visual needs using medical terminology and physiology knowledge.
- Dispense spectacle lenses, fit eyewear frames, and make precise adjustments to ensure optimal comfort and vision correction.
- Operate optical laboratory equipment for lens cutting, edging, and mounting, maintaining aseptic techniques and safety standards.
- Manage patient records accurately within EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or other clinic-specific software, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and medical confidentiality policies.
- Assist patients with eyewear fittings, sales transactions using POS systems, and provide expert advice on optics and eyewear options.
- Conduct vital signs assessments when necessary, especially in senior or pediatric care settings, adhering to health regulation policies.
- Maintain inventory of optical supplies, perform basic math calculations for billing and lab work, and operate cash registers efficiently.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in retail optometry or clinical optical settings with knowledge of ophthalmology practices.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations, medical coding, and medical billing procedures.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology related to eye care, and health regulation policies.
- Experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or similar platforms; proficiency in optical laboratory processes is preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations including pediatrics and senior care clients.
- Knowledge of spectacle lens dispensing, eyewear fittings, frame adjustments, and optical laboratory techniques.
- Ability to perform basic math accurately for sales transactions and medical record keeping; experience with POS systems is advantageous.
