EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: MATERIALS PURCHASING

Cospolich is seeking a senior-level individual with sound knowledge of sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing of materials related to the manufacturing of mechanical products, technical in nature. The position requires a depth of experience in acquiring metals, electrical components, and mechanical assemblies. There should be skill sets for establishing the perpetual supply of materials in support of continuing production processes.

The individual must assume responsibility for leadership in the department. They must possess interpersonal skills required in communicating throughout a multitude of departments, including but not limited to inventory, production, and engineering. There should be confidence in managing and directing those in subordinate roles.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and capable of developing strong supplier relationships while balancing cost, quality, and delivery requirements.

- A founded ability and comprehension of ERP/MRP systems.

- Negotiating acquisitions of $1 million purchase contracts.

- Facilitating 15 to 20 daily transactions. Estimated annually $20M.

- Depth of knowledge within the fields of materials relating to our processes and requirements.

- Establishing long-term purchasing agreements.

- Professional acumen and integrity of the highest level.

- Compatible organizational skills, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

- Capable of developing strong supplier relationships while balancing cost, quality, and delivery requirements.

- Conflict resolution regarding any phases of materials acquisitions

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or a related field preferred.
  • 2–5 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply-chain experience preferred, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience purchasing raw materials, fabricated components, production supplies, or industrial equipment.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and supplier-management skills.
  • Ability to read and understand purchase specifications, bills of materials, part numbers, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple purchase orders and priorities simultaneously.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other standard business applications.
  • Understanding of purchasing and inventory-control principles.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations and material requirements.
  • Ability to compare supplier quotations and perform cost analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Competence to negotiate professionally and maintain positive supplier relationships.
  • Capacity to identify potential supply disruptions and take proactive corrective action.
  • Strong follow-up and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Sound judgment when balancing cost, quality, inventory, and production requirements.
  • Purchase raw materials, components, equipment, supplies, and services required for manufacturing operations.
  • Review inventory levels, production requirements, and purchase requests to determine purchasing needs and priorities.
  • Prepare, issue, and manage purchase orders from placement through delivery.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations based on price, quality, lead time, availability, and other requirements.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, freight terms, lead times, and other purchasing conditions with suppliers.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and proactively follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Expedite critical materials when necessary to prevent production delays or shortages.
  • Communicate material shortages, supplier delays, price changes, and other supply risks to appropriate departments.
  • Coordinate with Production and Inventory personnel to maintain appropriate stock levels while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Work with Quality personnel to address supplier quality issues, rejected materials, returns, and corrective actions.
  • Research, identify, and qualify new suppliers and alternative sources for critical materials and components.
  • Maintain supplier pricing, lead times, purchasing records, and other information within the company's ERP system.
  • Review purchase order acknowledgments and resolve discrepancies involving quantities, pricing, delivery dates, or specifications.
  • Assist Accounting with invoice discrepancies, credits, receiving issues, and other purchasing-related matters.
  • Evaluate supplier performance related to cost, quality, delivery, responsiveness, and reliability.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, improved purchasing terms, inventory reduction, and supply-chain efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and purchasing records in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Success in this position will be measured through factors such as:

  • Material availability and prevention of production shortages.
  • Supplier on-time delivery performance.
  • Purchasing cost and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Inventory levels and reduction of excess or obsolete material.
  • Supplier quality and responsiveness.
  • Purchase order accuracy.
  • Timely resolution of purchasing and supplier issues.
  • Effective communication with internal departments and external suppliers.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
