What are the responsibilities and job description for the STEAM Educator position at Cosmosphere Inc?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Lead the development and implementation of a drone program for camps, schools, and scouts.
● Provide an entertaining, educational experience to youth participants from grades K-12.
● Actively engage students with learning opportunities while here, adapting to diverse personalities and learning styles as needed.
● Deliver presentations in the museum (Field Trips), in school classrooms (Outreach), and virtually (Livestreams).
● Always supervise participants during the program, including mealtimes, transition times, and overnight (as needed).
● Participate actively in all program training sessions.
● Assist with program preparation, set-up, and clean-up of activities as needed.
● Maintain a positive, supportive, and professional working relationship with all team members, participants, and parents.
● Be knowledgeable about the facility and serve as a guide for the building, education area, and museum as needed.
● Learn to operate all training simulator operations from preparation to conclusion.
● Be an expert presenter in the Justice Planetarium and Dr. Goddard’s Lab
o Complete any pre-show preparation promptly.
o Provide educational instruction & productions in venues at a consistently high-performance level.
o Responsible for cleaning and resetting the presentation area after each show.
● Create new presentations and activities for schools, scouts, or camps.
● Provide leadership for part-time educators working in scouts and camps.
Qualifications
● Education: Preference will be given to candidates with a college degree or equivalent work experience in education, math, science, engineering, or technology.
● Must be 18 years old.
● Proven experience teaching/working with youth.
● Good communication, organizational, leadership, and management skills.
● Ability to work with diverse groups, including multicultural and ethnic organizations.
● Positive attitude and friendly demeanor.
● Ability to work independently.
● Agree to complete youth protection training relating to the youth program being staffed before the event (generally available online or through local program support).
Work Requirements
● Schedule: Monday – Friday, some evenings and weekends (40 hours per week)
● Physical dexterity (some lifting of heavy materials and equipment necessary).
● Mental effort: working on the computer during time spent on the job, reading, writing, analyzing, and visualizing.
● Sensory requirement: ability to communicate and respond to participants and staff.
● Able to work under stress.
● Excellent attendance is required.
● Background check as it relates to job duties and youth program requirements.
Salary : $40,000 - $45,000
