What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Operations Caregiver position at Cosmic Canine Plano, LLC?
Kennel Technician – The Most Rewarding Job You’ll Ever Have!
Reports To: Kennel Manager
Do you love dogs?
Does dog slobber make you smile instead of cringe? Does a little fur on your clothes just mean a better day? If so, we need YOU to join our team as a Kennel Technician!
This isn’t just a job—it’s a calling. It’s for the dedicated, hardworking, dog-loving rockstars who are ready to care for our four-legged guests with love, patience, and an unstoppable work ethic. You’ll feed, play, clean, monitor, and keep tails wagging all day long. It’s labor-intensive, messy, and demanding—but it’s also incredibly fulfilling. If that excites you, keep reading. If not, this might not be your gig.
What You’ll Be Doing Every Day -- Animal Care – Because They Depend on You
✔ Make sure a LOT of dogs get fed and watered on schedule (because a hungry pup is not a happy pup).
✔ Get your steps in walking, playing, and exercising dogs to keep them happy and healthy.
✔ Enrichment activities—help dogs work their brains with fun games and learning exercises.
✔ Keep a close eye on each dog—they can’t talk, so you’re their voice. If something’s off, you’ll catch it first.
✔ Administer medications to dogs who need them (with proper training).
✔ Oversee group play sessions—think of yourself as a calm, confident pack leader making sure playtime stays friendly.
✔ Help with bathing and grooming—you will get wet, and yes, you will go home covered in fur.
Cleaning & Sanitation – Because Nobody Likes a Stinky Kennel
✔ You will scoop a LOT of poop. We won’t sugarcoat it.
✔ Keep our facility smelling fresh, clean, and welcoming (roses and sunshine, not dog breath).
✔ Clean and disinfect EVERYTHING—kennels, floors, toys, bedding, and supplies. Then do it again.
✔ Scrub, mop, sweep, repeat. Clean towels? You’ll wash plenty of those too.
✔ Follow all safety and sanitation protocols—we keep illness and germs OUT.
Record Keeping – Yes, Even About Poop
✔ Document everything—feeding, watering, potty breaks, meds, behavior changes, and health updates.
✔ Learn to recognize what normal vs. abnormal looks like (yes, even with poop).
✔ Log anything unusual—incidents, concerns, or funny moments owners should know about.
Customer Interaction – Because We Love Their Humans Too
✔ Be friendly and engaging—owners trust us with their pets, and they deserve to feel great about it.
✔ Provide fun updates, pictures, and notes about their dog’s stay.
✔ Make drop-offs and pick-ups a great experience—make them smile, answer questions, and be the highlight of their day.
Safety & Security – Because Dogs Can Be Sneaky
✔ Stay alert—safety is always the top priority.
✔ Secure all gates, doors, and enclosures—no escape artists on our watch!
✔ Know that some dogs are angels, and some can be jerks—you’ll learn the difference quickly.
✔ Follow safety procedures, complete your training, and always be one step ahead.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
✔ Work seamlessly with your teammates—we rely on each other to keep things running smoothly.
✔ Communicate, communicate, communicate—because taking care of dozens of dogs is a team effort.
✔ Support each other, have fun, and enjoy being part of an amazing group of dog lovers.
What We’re Looking For - Experience & Education
✔ High school diploma or equivalent required
✔ Prior experience with animals is great, but not required—a true love for dogs is a must!
Skills & Abilities
✔ Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and grow
✔ Ability to handle dogs of all sizes, temperaments, and energy levels
✔ Strong communication skills—both with humans and dogs!
✔ Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Reliability & Commitment
✔ Punctuality is non-negotiable—dogs rely on us to be there, on time, every time.
✔ If you ghost your shift, you’re ghosting living beings who depend on you. Not cool.
Physical Requirements
✔ Lift and move up to 50 pounds (yes, some dogs love to be carried).
✔ Be on your feet for long hours—this is NOT a desk job.
✔ Comfortable working in all weather conditions—rain, shine, hot, cold, dogs still need care!
Work Environment
✔ Expect fur, slobber, barking, and the occasional zoomies.
✔ Exposure to cleaning products, loud noises, and all kinds of doggy antics.
✔ Some evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required—because dogs don’t take days off.
