What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy County Administrator position at Cortland County?
This is an important administrative position involving responsibility for assisting the County Administrator in the implementation of the mission of the County Government. The incumbent in this position has direct responsibility for assigned supervisory duties. The work is carried out consistent with established policies and objectives under the administrative direction of the County Administrator. The incumbent will perform the duties of the County Administrator in his/her absence as directed by the County Legislature. Considerable latitude is given for the exercise of independent judgment. The incumbent in this position must exercise a high degree of confidentiality. A Deputy County Administrator does related work as required.
Work Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week, with benefits
Salary: $93,916-$125,0001/YR (Management)
Location: Cortland County County Administrator’s Office
Status: Exempt, Probationary

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
(a) Possession of Master’ Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or closely related field and four (4) years of full-time paid experience in a responsible governmental administrative position; OR
(b) Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or closely related field and six (6) years of full-time paid experience in a responsible governmental administrative position.
Degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, applicant must provide independent verification of equivalency. Must reside in Cortland County or a contiguous county. Pre-employment screenings required.
