Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity for a Field Testing Specialist to join our team in Macomb, Illinois . The field testing Specialist provides day-to-day support for a variety of activities at the Macomb research center. The candidate will play a key role in supporting all projects at the research center through activities including experiment planning, data collection and analysis, and field operations including planting, pollinating, and harvest. What You’ll Do:

  • Operate and troubleshoot agricultural research equipment by having the ability to onboard, operate, and maintain. This includes tractors, field cultivators, planters, sprayers, forklifts, and research combines.

  • Effectively ensure the proper and timely maintenance of agricultural equipment.

  • Collect phenotypic data requested by experiment managers across all crops.

  • Follow specific protocols to collect, analyze and distribute large volumes of data.

  • Participate in experiment planning, location mapping, and seed filling/sorting activities to prepare for planting.

  • Effectively communicate with coworkers, key contacts and management.

  • Use technology and modern software tools to conduct field research experiments.

  • Assist with plot maintenance by scouting weeds, disease and insect pressure across all crops.

  • Supervise contract labor and interns to complete research center activities according to protocols while ensuring a safe working environment.

  • Assist with seed shipments, ensuring proper protocols are followed and shipping demands are met in a timely manner.

  • Assist with research center projects and seed production. This includes seed preparation for planting, pollinating, combining and hand harvest. These are critical times for the success of the research center.

  • Maintain and ensure proper policies are being upheld through compliance record keeping and documentation.

What Skills You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or a science-related field, with 2-4 years of industry-related experience.

  • Safety Oriented: Commitment to excellent safety and risk management practices

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people

  • Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs, along with handheld PC experience, and capacity to learn new software

  • Flexibility to work extended days at critical times of the season. Some overnight stays during planting and harvesting are required.

  • Knowledge of agronomy, crop production, plant development, and experimental field plot design.

  • Strong attention to detail in a deadline driven environment.

  • Ability to operate agricultural equipment while observing all safety requirements.

  • Demonstrate skills in leadership, operational safety, labor supervision, and time management.

  • Ability to develop a working relationship with team members by exhibiting excellent communication and personal interaction skills with a diverse group of people.

  • Must be capable of working in varying ergonomic and environmental conditions for extended periods of time.

  • A valid US driver’s license is required, and a CMV license is preferred for trailer towing.

  • Ability to obtain a pesticide private applicators license in Illinois.

  • Ability to obtain a Part 107 UAS license

The salary range for this position is $68,000.00 to $88,502.00.

This reflects a reasonable estimate of the targeted base salary for this role. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus. Based on factors such as geographic location and candidate qualifications, actual base pay is determined when an employment offer is made.
