Psychologist – Correctional Healthcare
Position Summary
The Psychologist provides mental health services to incarcerated individuals, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapy. The role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations while supporting the facility’s mission to provide high-quality, ethical, and evidence-based care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychological evaluations, including clinical interviews, risk assessments, and diagnostic testing.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with mental health needs.
- Provide individual and group therapy focused on crisis intervention, trauma, substance use, and behavioral issues.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, social workers, and medical staff to ensure coordinated care.
- Respond to psychiatric emergencies and provide suicide prevention assessments and crisis stabilization.
- Document all services in compliance with facility policies, HIPAA, and accreditation standards.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
- Provide consultation and training to correctional staff regarding mental health conditions, crisis management, and behavioral interventions.
- Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical standards in a correctional environment.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an accredited institution.
- Current, unrestricted license as a Psychologist in the state of practice.
- Minimum 2–3 years of clinical experience; correctional or forensic psychology experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
- Ability to work effectively within a secure environment and manage complex cases.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
