Job Summary And Qualifications
The Phlebotomist follows physician orders t performs blood capillary and venipuncture collections from positively identified patients. These specimens are delivered to the laboratory in a timely manner. They receive patients and specimens that present to the Clinical Laboratory. They also register patients and/or patient samples for various Client Referral Accounts using a new or proper account number. The Specimens are delivered to the appropriate Laboratory Section. They answer the telephone, take clear messages and properly transfer calls. They perform other duties and errands from time to time.

Job Summary And Qualifications
The Phlebotomist follows physician orders t performs blood capillary and venipuncture collections from positively identified patients. They answer the telephone, take clear messages and properly transfer calls. They perform other duties and errands from time to time.
What you will do in this role:
- Courteously greets patients and visitors, processing them in a timely manner. Also answers the telephone within 3 rings, relaying clear messages.
- Is able to provide clear instructions to patients for urine collection, tolerance testing and other special procedures
- Verifies correct patient by checking the patient, Hospital ID#(or Social security #) on the request with the patients wristband before the procedure is done.
- Accurately records phone/faxed orders from physician’s offices.
- Monitors all patients that present for proper written requests for Laboratory testing, proper medical necessity, and Physician signature, according to Medicare Compliance guidelines.
- Removes requests from printer, insures a collector is notified to obtain the sample for testing if they cannot collect it for some reason, and/or places it in proper location, such as STAT rack, TIMED board, or tomorrow’s rack.
- Receives specimens, checks them for quality, and distributes to the appropriate section.
- Documents rejected specimens in the specimen rejection record.
- Completes test authorizations (see page 8 for details).
- Properly performs specimen collection.
- Insures adequate supplies in the phlebotomy section. Is able to check in supplies, properly record and store them.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- High School Diploma
- Phleb certification
- One year of experienced required
