PROJECT ACCOUNTANT II – $110,000 – $125,000 (construction) - Chicago, IL

Our corporate office, and parent company is headquartered in Chicago (west loop) and seeking a Project Accountant II. The ideal candidate will have experience with either a general contractor or a sizeable subcontractor and have knowledge and experience within both project accounting and general accounting functions.

Our Project Accountants play a pivotal role in overseeing all project billing processes, as well as reviewing costs and gross profit on each project. This role interacts heavily with internal project managers, project engineers, and the client.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively communicate with Project Managers and Project Executives regarding contract documents, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services related to billing
- Prepare final invoice package containing draft and final invoices for all billable projects, including all applicable backup for approval
- Send final invoices and waivers to the customer & follow up on client approval / payment
- Assess and pursue opportunities for maximization of client billing
- Maintain the billing folders for all projects, with all the appropriate documents, including pay applications, waivers, certified payroll reports, vendor invoices, etc. in accordance with standard procedures
- Generate and distribute ad hoc receivables, payables, and job profitability reports
- Set up new projects, make transfers of employee billable hours and/or expenses, and close jobs including review & investigation of open commitments
- Prepare time and material (T&M) billings with all related supporting documentation
- Manage/prepare subcontractor waiver process
- Assist Accounting Operations Manager with yearly audits
- Prepare yearly for union and insurance audits
- Manage certified payroll processes on jobs where it is required
- Recommend and implement agreed process improvements to the billing cycle
- Prepare special project analyses based on accounting functions
- Participate in monthly and quarterly project review meetings with CFO, Controller, VP of Construction Operations, and other group leaders
Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in a project accounting role or similar
- Experience within the construction industry, preferred
- Stability, loyalty and integrity of work product
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar
