Position Summary:
An Optician is responsible for helping patients select, fit, and adjust eyewear that meets both their vision needs and personal style preferences. Working closely with optometrists and ophthalmologists, the optician ensures each customer receives expert guidance, precise fittings, and high-quality service to enhance visual comfort and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist customers in selecting frames, lenses, and lens coatings based on prescription, lifestyle, and fashion preferences.
- Interpret and verify optical prescriptions from optometrists or ophthalmologists.
- Take accurate facial measurements including pupillary distance and optical center placement.
- Adjust, repair, and fit eyeglass frames to ensure optimal comfort and vision alignment.
- Educate customers on lens options, coatings, and proper eyewear care.
- Manage eyewear orders and verify the accuracy of completed products before delivery to patients.
- Maintain inventory of frames, lenses, and optical accessories.
- Utilize optical lab equipment and ensure lens accuracy and quality control.
- Provide excellent customer service and support to ensure a positive patient experience.
- Stay informed on current eyewear trends, optical technologies, and product lines.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of optical terminology, prescriptions, and lens types.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- High attention to detail and precision in measurements and adjustments.
- Proficiency in using optical tools and instruments.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail or clinical environment.
- Professional, friendly, and fashion-conscious demeanor.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Certification as a Licensed Optician (preferred or as required by state).
- 1–3 years of experience in an optical or vision care setting preferred.
