Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Optician specializing in Optical Sales to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will combine expertise in ophthalmology, laboratory procedures, and retail sales to provide exceptional service to patients and customers. This role involves assisting with frame selection, lens options, and patient education while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. Experience with EMR systems, medical terminology, and optical experience is highly valued. The Optician will play a vital role in enhancing patient satisfaction and supporting the clinical team with accurate record-keeping and technical support.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting eyewear that meets their prescription needs and personal style preferences
- Measure and fit eyeglasses, ensuring proper alignment and comfort for the patient
- Educate patients on lens options, coatings, and frame features based on their lifestyle requirements
- Maintain accurate medical records using EMR systems such as Epic and other electronic health record platforms
- Support laboratory processes including lens edging, mounting, and quality control to ensure precise fabrication of eyewear
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive eye care services
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information during all interactions
- Manage retail sales transactions efficiently, applying retail math skills for accurate billing and inventory management
- Stay informed about current trends in optics, medical terminology related to ophthalmology, and new product offerings
Experience
- Prior optical experience or retail sales background preferred but not required; training will be provided for qualified candidates
- Knowledge of ophthalmology practices, anatomy, physiology, vital signs, and medical terminology is advantageous
- Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as aseptic technique and optical fabrication processes is a plus
- Experience working with EMR systems like Epic or other electronic medical records platforms is desirable
- Background in pediatrics or senior care can enhance patient interactions but is not mandatory
- Previous roles in retail management or medical billing can contribute to success in this position
