The Reconnect Success Coach is responsible for working with students in the SUNY Reconnect program from recruitment to completion. The coach will support student success and persistence to credential achievement. A primary responsibility of this position is to help students navigate their educational journey, providing support and guidance to ensure they stay on track to achieve their goals. They assist with clarifying career paths, selecting appropriate programs, and developing effective study habits, while also connecting students with relevant resources and fostering a sense of belonging. Essentially, they help students make informed decisions and overcome obstacles along the way. This position is 20 hours per week. The hourly rate is $25.00.
Occasional meetings at different SUNY CCC locations and travel to regional employers and/or recruiting events will be required. Prolonged time sitting/standing working with computers and monitors, ability to walk/move across campus including walking up and down stairs, ability to lift up to 20 pounds (occasionally may be more), repeated motions may include keyboard typing. Occasional lifting may be required in setting up for events. Typical office and indoor building environments, occasional outdoor activity may be required. Essential Functions
Student Recruitment, Coaching, and Support (85%):
- Follow up on prospective student inquiries and applications for the SUNY Reconnect program and the enrollment process
- Review educational plans for students and work with them in an advisory role
- Serve students as an inquiry-focused coach and listener to guide, support, and reflect with students to promote personal insight
- Track Reconnect students and work with Director of Retention and Educational Planning on outreach for at-risk indicators
- Provide reporting from faculty to Reconnect business partners, as applicable
- Participate in SUNY Reconnect recruitment events/information sessions
- Assist students with College processes and accessing tools and resources (i.e. Credit for Prior Learning, Brightspace LMS)
- Ongoing communication with campus lead for SUNY Reconnect
- Provide referrals to resources and support
- Collaborate and maintain good working relationships within the college community as well as with the community at large, specifically with regional employers who are supporting employees in the Reconnect program
- Assist with student information/progress/tracking for grant reporting
- Assist with general communication to Reconnect students
- Provide information for grant reporting as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to be a high functioning user of Google and/or Microsoft Office Suites
- Demonstrated ability to function effectively and efficiently in a team environment
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures involved in academic advising
- Understanding of community college philosophy and familiarity with challenges of adult student populations
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Willingness to take initiative, be self-directed, and ability to follow through with completion of tasks and projects
- Grant administration experience preferred
- Demonstrates commitment to accomplishing work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner
- Ability to effectively convey information verbally and in writing, demonstrate effective listening skills, and display respect for and openness to other people’s ideas and thoughts
- Ability to accept changes to job requirements, policies, workload, etc., as well as learn new methods, procedures, or techniques resulting from change with the ability to clearly approach problems and find solutions
- Demonstrates support for the College’s goal of becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and culturally aware community and practicing anti-racist/biased behaviors
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree
- One year of experience in student or human services related area
- Ability to work flexible hours (including evening/weekend) to meet student availability
- Remote Internet access for virtual meetings/student coaching sessions
- Must have a valid driver’s license for travel to off-campus sites, as required
- Knowledge of the various degree programs and resources offered at SUNY CCC preferred
- Grant administration experience preferred
