The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for supervising all facets of payroll function; accounting, reporting and software systems. Prolonged time sitting/standing working with computers and monitors, ability to walk/move across campus including walking up and down stairs, ability to lift up to 20 pounds (occasionally may be more), repeated motions may include keyboard typing. Typical office and indoor building environments, occasional outdoor activity may be required. Essential Functions
Payroll (70%)
- Supervise one full-time employee; may also supervise part-time employees, as needed.
- Supervise payroll and accounting processing; adhere to strict guidelines and a strict schedule to ensure proper and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll.
- Administer legally defined payroll policies and procedures as determined by DOL, state/federal government, retirement system, SUNY, collective bargaining agreements, etc.; and ensure compliance with same.
- Implement payroll regulatory changes; collaborate with the Human Resources Department to develop and implement procedures to promote efficiency and compliance with regulatory changes.
- Oversee preparation of all required payroll reports.
- Respond to difficult requests for information and assist with researching information and problems related to policies, procedures, and payroll calculations.
- Perform and/or oversee monthly and year-end reconciliation of payroll ledger accounts (payroll liability accounts, fringe benefit accounts, payroll expense accounts, etc.) to the general ledger.
- Ensure accurate recording, classification, and reconciliation of all payroll-related transactions.
- Prepare and review payroll-related journal entries and accruals.
- Reconcile payroll bank accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Assist with payroll-related audit workpapers.
- Oversee maintenance and updates of finance and payroll systems software (preferably Banner), including tax withholding tables, retirement contributions, garnishments, employee benefits, deductions, and payroll-related general ledger interfaces.
- Evaluate departmental operations/activities and recommend improvements/modifications
- Special projects providing support for overall Finance Department, as assigned
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in accounting, business administration or a related field
- Three years of work experience in accounting or payroll
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree with additional years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Banner experience
Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including, but not limited to relevant experience, education, market demands, and training.
