Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Process Setup Technician to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient setup, startup, troubleshooting, and optimization of injection molding machines and tooling. Working closely with the Process Engineer and Shift Lead, the Process Setup Technician will provide technical support on the production floor while ensuring quality, productivity, safety, and efficiency standards are consistently achieved.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in plastic injection molding, excellent mechanical aptitude, and a passion for continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Pay is based on experience.
Responsibilities
- Set up, start up, shut down, and troubleshoot plastic injection molding machines.
- Install, remove, and prepare molds and tooling according to the production schedule.
- Verify machine setups and ensure all materials are staged and available for production.
- Monitor production processes, cycle times, scrap, and machine performance to maximize efficiency and quality.
- Complete production and process documentation accurately.
- Collaborate with Maintenance, Tool Room, Automation, and Quality departments to resolve production and equipment issues.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to reduce downtime, improve product quality, and minimize scrap.
- Review production schedules and coordinate daily priorities with Shift Leadership.
- Communicate effectively during shift handoffs to ensure production continuity.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following 5S principles.
- Operate forklifts and move materials as required.
- Follow all company safety policies, IATF standards, and Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in plastic injection molding process setup and troubleshooting preferred.
- Experience with scientific molding principles is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of plastic resins including PP, Nylon, Glass-Filled Materials, TPE, TPU, ABS, and other engineered materials.
- Experience working with:
- Hot runner controllers
- Sequential valve gates
- Dryers and thermolators
- Auxiliary equipment
- Familiarity with robotic automation including:
- Sprue Pickers
- End-of-Arm Tooling
- Fanuc 6-Axis Robots
- Gantry Robots
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities with a focus on root cause analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Experience with 1,400–2,400 ton injection molding presses is a plus.
- Forklift certification and overhead crane certification are preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, climbing, and stooping.
- Must provide and maintain a personal toolbox with appropriate tools.
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety shoes and safety glasses.
