Our client has been in business for 40 years, They are one of the most respected builders in Northern, VA. Our client has built an outstanding reputation on the pillars of quality craftsmanship, award-winning design, and an unwavering commitment to client satisfaction.


Our client holds a Virginia Class A Contractor's License with endorsements in Commercial Building, Electrical, Gas Fitting, Home Improvement, and plumbing. The client has recently expanded operations into Maryland and is now embarking on an exciting new chapter: growing its commercial division with a focus on specialty contracting in essential services such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and gas fitting.


This is a pivotal moment for our client.


Position Summary


The Vice President of Sales is a senior executive role responsible for leading all sales and business development efforts across both the residential and commercial divisions. This individual will own the company's revenue growth strategy, build and manage a high-performing sales team, and play a central role in launching and scaling the commercial specialty contracting division. The VP of Sales will report directly to the CFO and serve as a key member of the leadership team.


Responsibilities


Revenue Growth & Sales Strategy

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to drive revenue growth across residential remodeling, custom homes, and the new commercial specialty contracting division.
  • Establish annual and quarterly sales targets; build forecasting models and KPI dashboards to track performance against goals.
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities in Maryland and the greater DMV region, leveraging the company's expanded geographic footprint.

Commercial Division Development

  • Spearhead the launch and growth of the commercial specialty contracting division, focusing on essential services: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and gas fitting.
  • Build relationships with general contractors, developers, property managers, and commercial real estate firms to establish a project pipeline.
  • Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), develop detailed scopes of work, and prepare competitive proposals and bids for commercial projects.
  • Leverage existing industry relationships to accelerate market entry and secure anchor accounts.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and manage a growing sales team across residential and commercial business lines.
  • Establish sales processes, training programs, and accountability frameworks that drive consistent, repeatable results.
  • Foster a culture of consultative selling, client-first service, and cross-functional collaboration with design, production, and project management teams.

Operations & Technology

  • Experience with BuilderTrend, ensuring the sales team fully utilizes the platform for lead management, estimating, project tracking, and client communication.
  • Collaborate with marketing to align lead generation campaigns, brand positioning, and digital strategy with sales objectives.
  • Provide regular reporting and market intelligence to the executive team to inform strategic decision-making.

Client & Industry Engagement

  • Represent our client at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions to elevate the company's profile in commercial and residential markets.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of local building codes, permitting requirements, and market trends in Virginia and Maryland.
  • Cultivate long-term relationships with key clients, referral partners, architects, and industry stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive sales and business development experience in the specialty construction or building trades industry (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, or similar).
  • Demonstrated success in both residential and commercial construction sales environments; experience launching or scaling a new division strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets in a leadership capacity.
  • Established network of relationships with general contractors, developers, subcontractors, and commercial real estate professionals in the DMV region.
  • Hands-on proficiency with BuilderTrend (or comparable construction management software such as Procore, CoConstruct, or PlanGrid).
  • Strong experience responding to RFIs, developing scopes of work, preparing bid packages, and managing the proposal-to-contract lifecycle.
  • Must be physically located within 30 miles of the Fairfax, Virginia.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with or for a Virginia Class A licensed contractor.
  • Familiarity with Virginia and Maryland licensing, permitting, and regulatory requirements for commercial and residential construction.
  • Background in design-build firms or companies that offer turnkey construction services.
  • Experience managing a sales division or business unit.
  • Active involvement in industry associations such as NARI, NAHB, ABC, or local builder associations.

Salary : $100,000 - $120,000
