Youth Advisor – Juvenile Detention Center

The Regional Juvenile Detention Center is looking for dependable and motivated individuals to join our team as Youth Advisors. As a Youth Advisor, you will have an important role in maintaining a safe and secure environment while working directly with residents and helping them develop accountability, positive behaviors, and pro-social skills. Job Description
The Youth Advisor is responsible for monitoring the daily activities of residents in a secure juvenile detention center to help ensure the safety and security of residents, staff, and the facility. The Youth Advisor provides fair and consistent treatment while holding residents accountable for their behavior, with the goal of helping residents develop positive, pro-social skills. Youth Advisors are expected to serve as positive role models for residents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure the safety and security of residents, staff, and the facility by constantly observing residents, evaluating their behavior, and ensuring compliance with facility rules.
Coordinate and supervise the movement of residents to meals, education, recreation, and other activities in a safe and secure manner.
Supervise residents indoors while ensuring facility security is maintained at all times.
Conduct daily resident counts and perform room and area searches as needed to ensure contraband is not present in the facility.
Provide crisis intervention with residents as needed.
Maintain a clean and orderly facility by completing cleaning duties and supervising resident cleaning activities as needed.
Prepare accurate written unit reports documenting shift activities, including logs, incident reports, progress reports, and other communication materials as needed.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with the intake and discharge of residents as needed.
Screen visitors for contraband.
Assist with resident transports as needed.
Follow all prescribed facility safety procedures.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent.
One year of related work experience.
Two years of military experience or college in a related field may be substituted for the required one year of related work experience.
Experience working with residents suffering from alcohol and drug abuse or sexually abusive behaviors, as well as experience working with a mixed population, is preferred.
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
