JOB DESCRIPTION

Cornerstone National Bank & Trust is seeking an experienced and client-focused Portfolio Manager to join its Wealth Management and Trust Department. This position is responsible for managing investment portfolios for trust, estate, agency, and custodial accounts in accordance with each client’s objectives, governing documents, fiduciary standards, and applicable investment policies.


The Portfolio Manager will develop and implement investment strategies, monitor portfolio performance, evaluate risk, and communicate clearly with clients, trust officers, investment committees, and internal partners. The ideal candidate will combine strong investment expertise with sound judgment, fiduciary awareness, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality client service.


This is a dual role working as an Investment Officer for the Bank as well where the successful candidate will assist the Bank’s Chief Financial Officer with managing the Bank’s fixed income portfolio.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage diversified investment portfolios for trust, estate, agency, investment management, and custodial accounts.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement investment strategies aligned with client objectives, risk tolerance, liquidity needs, time horizon, tax considerations, and governing documents.
  • Monitor economic conditions, market trends, asset allocation, portfolio performance, and individual holdings to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Conduct ongoing portfolio reviews and make appropriate recommendations for rebalancing, purchases, sales, and investment changes.
  • Ensure portfolio activity is consistent with applicable fiduciary standards, internal investment policies, client investment objectives, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and present investment reviews, performance reports, market commentary, and portfolio recommendations to clients, internal committees, and senior management.
  • Collaborate with trust officers, relationship managers, administrators, operations staff, outside advisors, and clients to deliver coordinated wealth management services.
  • Facilitate equity and fixed income trades in client portfolios.
  • Perform annual Reg 9 Investment Reviews for assigned accounts and ensure full compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in investment committee meetings and support documentation of portfolio decisions, exceptions, and approvals as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of investment rationale, account reviews, client communications, and policy compliance.
  • Stay current on investment products, capital markets, fiduciary investment practices, regulatory developments, and industry best practices.
  • Assist in the selection of bank permissible fixed income securities.
  • Facilitate and execute the purchase and sale of fixed income securities.
  • Perform applicable credit due diligence at the time of purchase, as well as ongoing credit due diligence.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, business administration, or a related field. 
  • Five to ten years of experience investing for clients, preferably within a trust company, wealth management firm, registered investment adviser, bank, or related financial services environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of portfolio construction, asset allocation, investment research, risk management, and performance analysis.
  • Strong understanding of fiduciary responsibilities, trust account administration, and investment management within a regulated financial institution or trust company environment.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to interpret client objectives, governing documents, investment policy statements, and account-specific restrictions.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with portfolio accounting, investment research, reporting, and Microsoft Office tools.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CFA, CFP, CTFA, MBA, or other relevant professional designation (or progress towards a designation) preferred.
  • Experience managing portfolios for high-net-worth individuals, trusts, estates, foundations, charitable accounts, or institutional clients.
  • Knowledge of equities, fixed income, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, alternative investments, and cash management strategies.
  • Experience presenting to investment committees, trust committees, boards, clients, or professional advisors.
  • Familiarity with fiduciary investment standards, prudent investor principles, and applicable banking or trust regulations.
