Position Summary:
As a team member of the IT Department, the Desktop Support Specialist provides Tier-1 support for the end-user desktop infrastructure, including PCs, laptops, phones, computer applications, and other infrastructure items. This position is responsible for daily HelpDesk support via phone or email under the supervision of the Director of I.T. and Systems Management. Duties include new systems roll out and local travel to branches when required.
- This position is part of the Late Friday and Saturday rotation schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responds to employee requests for service and determines the nature and extent of support needed.
- Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots a wide range of software used throughout the operation. Performs hardware/software upgrades to existing computer equipment as needed.
- Responds to software or hardware problem calls on site or over the phone or through the helpdesk system for users. Investigates error messages and determines resolution. Reinstalls program or replace files that are causing errors.
- Provides network support for all locations which includes installing networked application software, granting access to employees, creating user groups, resetting passwords, managing shared resources, installing peripherals, configuring computer security.
- Trains employees in startup, basic and advanced use of software programs including Outlook Exchange electronic mail and calendaring, Microsoft Office. May provide group training on request.
- Develop job aids for tasks performed in software applications. Sets up procedures to facilitate software installation or to help users in their specific tasks.
- Maintains up-to-date expertise in the operation and application of the business standard software and a working knowledge of a wide variety of commonly used hardware and software.
- Assists in evaluation and testing of computer software and in planning for future needs.
- May provide license tracking companywide on all centrally purchased packages such as anti-virus and office suites.
- Maintain current and accurate inventory for all IT assets
- Performs other related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.
- This position is deemed an essential position and must follow the essential employee requirements.
- Complete all required training before or by the assigned deadline.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Requires special technical knowledge of the techniques and procedures of software and network support for multiple users.
- Must understand installation, configuration and troubleshooting processes for software, hardware, networking and accessory equipment.
- Requires sufficient analytical skills to assess problems or unusual situations and develop solutions.
- Prefer knowledge of how to assemble and disassemble personal computer components, including cabling.
- Requires the ability to independently perform all of the duties of the position efficiently and effectively.
- Must be able to install, configure, troubleshoot and maintain all of the software applications.
- Must have strong communication and training skills and be able to communicate technical information to non-technical users.
- Requires knowledge of basic networking switch commands, Active Directory and VMWare.
- Deep understanding of how a credit union functions, and the value it brings to its members and community. This includes understanding of what a Cooperative is, as that is the business models of all credit unions.

Qualifications:
- AA/AS degree in computer related field plus two years relevant experience or a BA/BS degree in computer science or related discipline; or the combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position.
- Requires experience with personal computer equipment. Preferred experience with personal computer word processing, spreadsheet, database, DOS and Windows skills.
- Bondable upon initial employment and continue to be bondable throughout term of employment.
Physical Requirements:
The functions of the position usually performed sitting but may require some amount of time standing. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, typewriter, calculator, cutting, labeling and taping involve extensive wrist and hand movements. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.
