Accounting Specialist

Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our finance team. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for the accurate execution of daily accounting operations, general ledger reconciliation, and internal control support. This role ensures the integrity of financial data across all cash accounts, internal records, and transaction processing while supporting audit readiness and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Daily Accounting Operations
• Performs daily reconciliation of all external cash accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Conducts daily reconciliation of all internal DDA (Demand Deposit Accounts).
• Processes daily clearing of ACH items in accordance with established procedures and timelines.
• Completes daily and weekly reconciliation of Bank General Ledger items.
• Performs daily reconciliation and resolution of unposted errors, escalating discrepancies as appropriate.

Internal Controls and Compliance

• Assists in the completion of internal control reviews on bank areas that are appropriately segregated from daily responsibilities.
• Reviews system access including verification that terminated employees are removed from the system and all active bank-owned accounts.
• Confirms that all employees maintain appropriate access to systems and bank information in accordance with internal policy.
• Maintains audit-ready documentation and supports regulatory examinations and internal/external audits.
• Ensures adherence to applicable federal and state financial regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements and applicable banking regulations.

Wire and Transaction Review

• Reviews all incoming and outgoing wire transactions for accuracy, authorization, and compliance.
• Identifies and flags unusual or potentially fraudulent transaction activity.
• Coordinates with internal stakeholders to verify and process authorized transactions.

Discretion and Independent Judgment

• Identifies reconciliation inefficiencies and recommends workflow improvements to enhance accuracy and scalability.
• Evaluates accounting discrepancies and determines appropriate corrective actions or escalation paths.
• Prioritizes work and allocates time based on business needs, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Provides input and recommendations to leadership on process improvements and internal control enhancements.

Requirements

• Proven experience in accounting or finance roles with a strong understanding of accounting concepts such as debits & credits, double entry bookkeeping, and journal entries.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of financial concepts related to budgeting, credit analysis, tax compliance, and governmental reporting is advantageous.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; Associate’s degree with relevant experience may be considered.
• 1–2 years of experience in accounting, banking operations, or a related financial role required.
• Prior experience with bank reconciliation, general ledger management, or ACH processing is strongly preferred.
