Job Description: Cornerstone Caregiving is seeking a highly capable and confident Payroll Manager to lead our remote bookkeeping team responsible for processing weekly payroll for over 10,000 employees across 300 offices in 43 states. This individual will play a critical leadership role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll execution while overseeing all aspects of payroll operations, including wage garnishments, payroll tax compliance, reconciliation, and multi-state payroll management.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep payroll knowledge, the ability to resolve complex issues, and strong people management skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Weekly Payroll Processing: Lead the accurate and timely execution of weekly payroll for over 10,000 employees.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and support the payroll/bookkeeping team, ensuring clarity in responsibilities, accountability, and professional development.
- Multi-State Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations across 43 states, including proper application of payroll codes and wage laws.
- Wage Garnishments: Oversee and ensure accurate processing of all garnishments, levies, and wage deductions.
- Reconciliation Oversight: Manage and review payroll-related account reconciliations, ensuring data accuracy and resolving discrepancies. Ensure timely and accurate month-end and bank reconciliations.
- System Oversight: Maintain and enhance payroll systems and processes, ensuring they meet evolving business needs.
- Conflict Resolution: Serve as a point of contact for resolving payroll disputes and inquiries from internal teams, including Operating Directors across the U.S.
Qualifications
- 4 years of experience in payroll management, preferably in a high-volume or multi-location environment; experience with processing Canadian payroll is a plus
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, multi-state payroll operations, and wage & hour compliance; proficiency with Paylocity or similar payroll systems is a plus
- Experience with wage garnishments, payroll tax filings, and payroll-related account reconciliations
- Proven track record of leading remote teams of 5 and managing performance
- Excellent communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail, confidentiality, and organizational skills
