Summary of Position: Corner Cupboard Food Bank delivers meals to children in SWPA through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) in collaboration with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. By combining our program expertise with partner’s community-based expertise, these programs serve 1000s of children each summer.
The SFSP Summer Food Site Administrative Assistant supports the direct service of meals to children in their community. The Site Admin Asst. primary responsibility is to register people and help count bundles served to children ages 18 and younger (or their guardians) in accordance with all USDA, PDE and Food Bank requirements.
The Site Admin Asst. will also work as a member of a team to achieve the program’s goals and to fulfill our collaborative mission to feed people in need and mobilize our community to eliminate hunger.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Attend all Program and Food Safety training sessions
· Support program leaders in receiving food delivered in accordance with all food safety regulations
· Check quantity and quality of food received confirming the inventory is what is expected
· Register guests for the distribution and ensure an organized and smooth sign-up and service process
· Support the service of meals in an organized manner during approved serving times to all children age 18 and younger
· Count bundled meals served at point of service, using the Food Bank’s meal counting system
· Support the program leaders in maintaining and submitting all program records in a timely manner
· Review and adjust food orders as needed to ensure every child is served while avoiding food waste
· Communicate with the Youth Cafe team regarding weekly orders, supplies, food quality concerns, delivery issues and other needs
· Organize activities and handouts to include in the meal bundles for children to take home and increase the engagement of children during the distribution pick up
· Support outreach efforts to increase program participation as needed (e.g. distributing flyers in local neighborhood, helping with social media, collecting feedback from participants and their parents/caregivers)
· Collaborating with the Child Nutrition Outreach team for marketing and activity support as needed such as Spike the Rockin’ Pineapple mascot visits
· Carry out additional responsibilities as determined by the Program Leaders
Qualifications:
· Must be at least 18 years of age
· Ability and willingness to respectfully work with diverse populations, including the ability to engage with and build trust among people living in under-resourced communities
· Experience and interest in working with children
· Positive attitude
· High quality customer service skills
· Strong problem-solving skills
· Ability and willingness to learn new technology
· Able to lift 20 pounds without assistance
· Must be willing to work in person, up to four days per week, 4-9 hours per day, with no more than five personal days off (unpaid).
· Must have access to a reliable source of transportation to get to and from Corner Cupboard
