Security Guard

About the Role

The Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, personnel, and property throughout Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center (CS-HHC) and off-site facilities. The Security Guard will be responsible for floating throughout CS-HHC locations opening and closing locations as needed. This person will also monitor the premises of assigned CS-HHC locations daily to check for fire hazards and adherence to proper procedures in use of certain equipment and electrical extensions, storage of material, transport equipment etc., and acts as an active member of security personnel and the Emergency Response Team at assigned locations.
 
SHIFT: Various Hours depending on location, Monday-Friday, with occasional on calls. 

Key Responsibilities

• Ensures the safety of patients, visitors, personnel, and property throughout CS-HHC and off-site facilities
• Assesses and addresses Life Safety/Security incident reports
• Conducts E.O.C. hazardous surveillance walkthroughs
• Performs risk assessments when requested by Compliance
• Monitors assigned CS-HHC locations to check for fire hazards and adherence to proper procedures in use of certain equipment and electrical extensions, storage of material, transport equipment etc.
• Participates in various fire prevention and fire incident reporting activities
• Conducts monthly inspection of fire extinguishers at Columbus Avenue location and any other locations where fire prevention equipment maintenance is CS-HHC responsibility.
• Assists with Fire Marshal Inspection for certificate at assigned CS-HHC locations
• Assists with annual inspections of all fire and burglar alarm monitoring systems at assigned CS-HHC locations
• Reviews security CCTV monitoring
• Conducts employee identification checks, property inspections and visitor clearance checks at assigned locations
• Shares on-call after-hours coverage for emergencies at all CS-HHC locations
• Assist in evacuations if necessary
• Performs all other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required. Additional education in Security is a plus.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience preferred. Valid Connecticut driver’s license and personal vehicle required.
• Ability to relate to patients and staff in a pleasant manner. Excellent communication skills with the ability to create and continue good working relationships with employees and patients. Ability to handle troublesome patients sensitively. Ability to act quickly and appropriately in an emergency. Must be highly reliable and punctual.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand or sit for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

• Valid Connecticut driver’s license and personal vehicle required. Travel within the State of Connecticut is required on a regular basis.
