What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Cornell College?
Cornell College invites applications for a full-time assistant controller. The assistant controller provides accurate accounting, recordkeeping and presentation of financial information on monthly, quarterly and annual basis; and preparation for and coordination of annual external financial audit and tax returns.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists the controller with the year-end financial audit, including report production
- Assist the controller with the compilation of financial data for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- Assists the controller in keeping accounting records in balance and reconciled.
- Makes necessary journal entries as needed to reconcile accounts
- Prepares Federal 990 tax returns for Cornell operations, ensuring the accuracy of the report and leading initiatives to plan for the efficient preparation of the return.
- Maintains accounting records for investments, including due diligence on alternative investments, life insurance, and annuity contracts
- Posts all quarterly allocations of income and market gains/losses and quarterly allocation of endowment spending.
- Responsible for updating and accuracy of the Endowment Fund Balance Software
- Assist the Controller with administrative software processes and report writing.
- Handle all capital calls required by investments
- Review and approval of all journal entries
- Reconciles the gift clearing account
- Responsible for life insurance accounting and donor correspondence
- Performs unitrust funds management, recordkeeping, and tax reporting, along with the annuity accounting and reporting
- Performs Fixed Asset Accounting, including year-end capitalization and depreciation.
- Compiles and files 1099-R forms for annuitants.
- Performs internal audits and account analysis within the general ledger
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field required. Minimum of three - five years of recent accounting work experience.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily while seated in an office environment. Will require some walking from building to building to attend meetings, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. May also involve climbing stairs to visit other areas in buildings with limited elevator access. This position works in person on campus.

The hiring pay range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000.
