Join our District Energy West team and help keep critical heating and cooling infrastructure running safely and reliably. As a District Energy Utility Operator, you’ll operate and monitor plant and distribution equipment, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and respond to issues that impact customer service and system uptime. This role works closely with Operations partners across multiple sites to deliver safe, compliant, and efficient performance—while continuously improving how we work. Based at our worksite daily, you'll have a front-row seat as our infrastructure projects develop and come to life.

- Follow safe work practices by completing hazard assessments (SHA/JHA/FLHA), participating in site inspections, and supporting up-to-date safety and operating documentation (e.g., OERPs, SJPs, SWPs, ERPs, SOPs).
- Operate, monitor, adjust, and control district energy systems to maintain safe, efficient performance and meet regulatory, contractual, and internal requirements.
- Monitor plant and field equipment on-site and via SCADA to verify proper operation and identify abnormal conditions early.
- Inspect, service, and maintain equipment in district energy facilities, underground distribution piping, and energy transfer stations across multiple sites.
- Complete preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, including troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical and operational equipment.
- Track performance against targets, investigate issues, take corrective action, and suggest opportunities to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Identify, communicate, and help mitigate operational risks to prevent injury, equipment damage, service interruptions, and financial loss.
- Keep accurate records by completing maintenance logs and entering work details in the CMMS.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment (plant interior/exterior, control room, vehicles) that meets site expectations.
- Support facility tours as requested and clearly explain equipment, systems, and operating processes to visitors and stakeholders.
- Participate in after-hours emergency response and act as a first responder to operational call-outs, as required.
- Take on other related responsibilities as needed to support safe, reliable operations.
- Hands-on understanding of boiler, chiller, cooling tower, and instrumentation basics.
- Working knowledge of electrical and control systems, with the ability to support troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret distribution maps, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs.
- Comfortable using hand and power tools safely and correctly.
- Able to record measurements accurately and apply basic arithmetic.
- Able to respond effectively to emergencies—stay calm, follow procedures, make timely decisions, and communicate clearly.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2 years of experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical equipment (e.g., boilers, cooling towers, chillers, pumps, valves, piping, and fittings) required.
- Working knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and basic OSHA requirements required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- HVAC system experience preferred.
- SCADA/HMI experience preferred.
- Controls and instrumentation experience preferred.
- Basic First Aid training/certification preferred.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) required.
- Work in plant and field environments around large equipment.
- Exposure to water, chemicals, electricity, dust, grease, oil, fumes, hazardous materials, and noise.
- Work at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in varying weather conditions, as required.
- Physical demands include lifting/moving up to 60 lbs, prolonged standing, and climbing.
- Use PPE as required (e.g., hard hat, safety-toe footwear, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, fall protection) and follow applicable safety requirements.
- Rotating shifts.
- Participation in an on-call rotation and scheduled overtime, as required.
Salary : $55,000 - $70,000
