Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing support to individuals facing mental health challenges. This position involves working closely with patients to assist in their treatment plans, ensuring their safety, and promoting their overall well-being. The Mental Health Counselor will be responsible for implementing therapeutic interventions and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care.
Duties
- Assist in the implementation of individualized treatment plans, including psychotherapy and behavioral therapy techniques.
- Provide direct support to patients, including crisis intervention and management.
- Conduct patient assessments and maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions and individual counseling, utilizing techniques such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy.
- Monitor patient behavior and report any changes or concerns to the clinical team.
- Engage in case management activities, including intake assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop effective treatment strategies for patients with diverse needs, including those with developmental disabilities or PTSD.
- Participate in clinical research initiatives and data collection to improve patient outcomes.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, ensuring adherence to medical terminology and documentation standards.
Requirements
- Experience in mental health counseling or related fields is preferred, particularly in inpatient or outpatient settings.
- Familiarity with various therapeutic modalities such as psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, and applied behavior analysis is desirable.
- Knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems for accurate medical recordkeeping.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with patients of all ages, including children and geriatrics.
- Understanding of crisis management techniques and behavior management strategies.
- Experience working with individuals facing addiction issues or those requiring grief counseling is a plus.
- Background in social work or clinical counseling is advantageous.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while demonstrating empathy and respect for patients' dignity.
