Job Summary: The Trailer Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the integrity and safety of our food-grade tank, van, and reefer trailers. This position is responsible for maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs of the trailers.
Essential Job Functions:
Conduct routine inspections to ensure the cleanliness and integrity of food-grade tank trailers, vans, and reefers.
Conduct inspections to ensure all Mechanical, Electrical, reefer units and Attachment systems are in accordance with DOT and FMCSA requirements.
Assist in the cleaning and sanitization of interiors and exteriors following industry standards.
Perform routine or preventative maintenance tasks such as brake adjustments, tire changes, reefer services and repairs, lighting, floor repairs, fenders and mudflaps.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance and cleaning activities.
Comply with all safety and sanitation guidelines and federal and state regulations at all times.
Use diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized equipment.
Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventative maintenance; and calling for repairs.
Travel within designated region for service calls and temporary roadside maintenance
Participate in training programs to develop technical skills.

Qualifications:Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to the company random drug and alcohol program
Basic understanding of food-grade tank trailer components and systems
Willingness to learn and work as part of a team
Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest quality and work standards
Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in varying environmental conditions
Ability to work any schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
Ability to read and understand technical service manuals
Preferred:
Proven experience in trailer fabrication, particularly food-grade tank trailers.
Welding certification
Mechanical and electrical knowledge related to trailers
AWS certification
Knowledge of 3A procedures and finishes for food-grade inner barrel repair

Some parts and equipment require very precise adjustments, or the part may go into an area that is too small for the hand, so technicians need good coordination between the thumb and forefinger.
Steady hands: The job requires holding one or both arms steady while working on a vehicle, sometimes for several minutes. Technicians need the strength to keep their hands stead even if their arms are taxed.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision especially when working on electrical systems, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus and make out small details. Hearing abilities to differentiate between sounds or locate the source of an unusual sound.
Communication: Ability to speak with internal customers to determine the nature of the problem or to explain the work performed. Ability to discuss work with other technicians or supervisors. Ability to make self understood as well as be able to understand what others are saying.
Work Environment: The duties of this job are performed in both a shop and office environment, a light industrial environment, and outdoors, thereby experiencing some minor to moderate level of noise due to equipment. Exposure to various climate conditions, fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease, and gasses. A technician must be focused on safety and works with a variety of potentially harmful substances, and the equipment can pose dangers if not handled properly. Must be safety conscious and willing to follow all safety rules at all times to protect themselves, their coworkers, and their customers.
