Role Description The Overnight Veterinary Technician is a part-time, on-site role based in Cambridge, MA. This team member provides continuous overnight monitoring and care for surgical patients, including assessing vital signs, administering medications, and supporting post-operative recovery. Responsibilities include assisting with anesthesia recovery, maintaining accurate medical records, preparing treatment areas and equipment, and following hospital protocols for safety and infection control. The role also involves communicating patient status to veterinarians and daytime teams, supporting client education regarding home care instructions, and responding promptly to changes in patient condition. The Overnight Veterinary Technician collaborates closely with surgeons, veterinary nurses, and support staff to ensure high-quality, compassionate care throughout the night.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in Animal Care and Pet Care, including safe handling, monitoring, and comfort of canine and feline patients.
- Proficiency in Veterinary Technology, such as using diagnostic equipment, maintaining medical records, and supporting surgical and post-operative care.
- Experience or training in Anesthesiology, including monitoring anesthesia recovery, vital signs, and pain management under veterinary supervision.
- Ability to provide clear, supportive Client Education on post-operative care, medication administration, and monitoring at home.
- Credentialed veterinary technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) or equivalent experience in a veterinary clinical setting preferred.
- Prior experience in emergency, specialty, or surgical veterinary practice is beneficial.
- Comfort working overnight shifts, strong attention to detail, and ability to respond calmly in urgent situations.
