Job Description

The Ithaca College School of Health Sciences & Human Performance invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Director of Clinical Education and Clinical Instructor/Clinical Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology. This is a non-tenure-eligible multi-year renewable position, with an initial three-year term and periodic reappointment review.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will serve as the Director of the Sir Alexander Ewing Speech and Hearing Clinic, which includes coordination of clinical practica and fieldwork. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing clinic operations and providing administrative leadership.
  • Teaching academic courses and supervising graduate student practicum.
  • Coordinating and supporting community-based fieldwork experiences.
  • Advising students, and contributing to departmental, school, and college service.
  • Engaging in scholarly activity consistent with departmental policy for clinical faculty.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s, SLP-D, or PhD in communication disorders or related field.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • New York State licensure in speech-language pathology within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience as a practicing Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical supervisory experience, including completion of ASHA’s required 2 hours of continuing education in clinical supervision.
  • Evidence of leadership potential and administrative capabilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Potential for excellence in teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in academic teaching in a postsecondary setting.
  • Experience with program development and/or clinical innovation.
  • Interest and/or experience in supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging initiatives.

Hiring Range

$73,000 - $81,000, dependent on discipline, qualifications and experience.

About The Department Of Speech-Language Pathology And Audiology

The Department of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology at Ithaca College offers robust graduate and undergraduate degree programs with ten full-time faculty. Our master’s degree in speech-language pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The department successfully launched a fully online modality master’s degree option in 2024.

The Department is housed within the School of Health Sciences & Human Performance and operates the Ewing Speech & Hearing Clinic, a community-facing clinic that provides diagnostic and treatment services across the lifespan. The Clinic is open September – June and averages approximately 1,000 visits per year, including some group sessions. We also offer dynamic off campus clinical placement opportunities through hundreds of affiliations in the Ithaca community, the surrounding region, and across the nation. Our graduate and undergraduate programs emphasize clinical excellence, evidence-based practice, and a strong commitment to equity and inclusion. With an emphasis on interprofessional education and collaborative practice, faculty, staff, and students from across professions work collaboratively to promote positive outcomes for individuals and communities in programs such as our Center for Life Skills, Parkinson’s Wellness Collaborative, and the Therapeutic Alliance Program. Our SLPA team is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service and to advancing clinical service in communication sciences and disorders.
