The Headquarters Support Team (HST) Media Print Technician helps replicate the Information variable of the operational environment (OE) to create a realistic, contested information domain for MCTP exercises. Working with the Media Lead, the Media Site Lead, the part-time Media Team, Higher Command (HICOM), Information Operations (IO) planners, Exercise Control (EXCON), Joint Effects Division (JED), and Opposing Forces (OPFOR) elements, the Media Print Technician manages media storylines, products, and injects across primarily print, as well as broadcast, and social mediums-from adversary perspectives-to enable units to train against realistic influence and information effects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, write, and deliver print-focused media products (internet content, social media posts, newspaper/magazine articles, flyers, pamphlets, and internal memos) that align with exercise storylines and training objectives.
  • Produce event-based media MSEL injects and IO storylines that are synchronized with the exercise's Road to War and other scenario elements.
  • Replicate adversary media operations and narrative themes (enemy perspective) while ensuring content is classified appropriately for exercise use and compliant with exercise rules and workarounds.
  • Design and edit print layouts, manage physical printing processes, and coordinate distribution of materials as requested by the Government; manage on-site media production assets and personnel during exercise execution.
  • Operate and manage contested information domain activities in simulation and real-world play areas, including deployment of social media-like outputs and tracking audience effects where appropriate.
  • Coordinate closely with IO Scenario Writers, the JED, EXCON, HICOM, and Rules & Workaround Committee to ensure media actions are authorized, timed, and adjudicated per exercise R&W guidance.
  • Maintain a media product library and database that documents all media outputs, timing, message themes, and MSEL links; update live as exercise events evolve.
  • Train, monitor, and advise OPFOR and exercise participants on media engagement techniques, likely adversary narratives, and expected effects.
  • Provide input to the IO Annex, STARTEX materials, and after-action products describing media execution, impacts, and recommended improvements.
  • Prepare recommended media workarounds and present them to the MCTP Rules and Workaround Committee as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Word and PowerPoint software.
  • Familiar with current Army and Joint doctrine.
  • BS/BA degree with 5 years of military experience, or High School and 10 years of military experience.
  • Active DOD Secret clearance is required.

Preferred Experience And Qualifications

  • 5 years combined experience in journalism, print production, graphic design, public affairs, or a closely related field supporting military training or operations.
  • Demonstrated experience producing print content (articles, layouts, graphics) and developing written narratives.
  • Familiarity with Information Operations concepts, adversary information tactics, and exercise control processes (EXCON/JED).
  • Strong writing, storytelling, and message development skills; ability to craft persuasive narratives for multiple audiences.
  • Proficiency with print production tools (Adobe InDesign/Photoshop, content management systems) and common office software.
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills; ability to work in a high-tempo exercise environment and adapt media outputs in real time.
  • Prior experience supporting MCTP, Combat Training Centers (CTCs), or large-scale joint/coalition exercises.
  • Experience working with OPFOR, EXCON, or HICOM teams and knowledge of Rules & Workarounds adjudication.
