Title: Senior Staff Accountant
Purpose: The Senior Staff Accountant supports accounting operations, financial reporting, project accounting, and compliance activities for a growing renewable energy organization. This role maintains accurate financial records, supports GAAP compliance, and partners with internal teams to provide timely project and financial reporting.
Reports to: Controller
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Accounting
- Prepare and review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial transactions.
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Analyze financial results and investigate variances.
- Support preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
Project Accounting
- Track project costs, budgets, revenue recognition, work-in-progress schedules, and profitability for solar and renewable energy projects.
- Collaborate with project managers, project coordinators, and operations teams to maintain accurate project budgets and records in systems such as Procore and QuickBooks.
- Support project billing, including AIA billing documentation, lien waiver coordination, and related billing package requirements.
- Assist with project financing arrangements, tax credits, grants, incentives, and related reporting requirements.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare supporting schedules for financial statements, management reporting, annual audits, and tax filings.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal accounting policies, and applicable reporting requirements.
- Assist with accounting controls, procedures, and documentation.
Accounts Payable and Receivable Oversight
- Review vendor payments, customer billings, and cash applications.
- Assist with collections and cash flow management.
- Ensure proper coding and approval of expenditures.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency.
- Assist with ERP system enhancements and automation initiatives.
- Develop and maintain accounting procedures and documentation.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Assist with treasury and banking activities.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff.
Qualifications
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with accounting software and ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred
- Experience in renewable energy, solar EPC, construction, engineering, or project-based industries.
- Experience with percentage-of-completion accounting and project cost accounting.
- Familiarity with renewable energy tax credits, incentives, and project financing structures.
- Experience supporting external audits and tax compliance.
- Knowledge of multi-entity accounting environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Business Central, Procore, or similar project accounting systems preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future employment visa sponsorship.
- Ability to commute to the Mahwah, NJ office as required.
Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
