What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Director position at Core Business Advisors, PLLC?
About Core Business Advisors
Core Business Advisors is a team of seasoned financial professionals providing integrated accounting, tax, and advisory services to growing organizations. Since our founding in 2010, we have partnered with business owners, executives, and stakeholders to deliver the insight and leadership typically expected from a full-time Chief Financial Officer—on a flexible, fractional basis. We leverage cutting-edge technology and AI-driven tools to ensure our clients receive faster, more accurate, and more actionable financial guidance than ever before.
Our leadership team is comprised of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) with backgrounds in Big Four and regional public accounting firms, as well as executive leadership roles within operating companies. Several members of our team began their careers with global firms, where they developed deep technical expertise in tax, audit, and transaction advisory. This foundation, combined with hands-on experience serving as CFOs and senior finance leaders and a forward-thinking approach to financial technology, allows us to deliver advice that is both technically rigorous and grounded in real-world execution.
About the Opportunity
We are a growing, client-focused CPA firm headquartered in Oklahoma City, committed to delivering high-quality tax and advisory services to businesses and individuals across a broad range of industries. As we continue to scale, we are seeking an accomplished tax professional to join our leadership team as Director of Tax.
This is a pivotal role for a practitioner who combines deep technical expertise with a passion for operational excellence — someone who not only knows the tax code but also embraces technology, drives process improvement, and elevates the overall capability of our tax practice.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Partner group, the Director of Tax will serve as the primary technical authority for all tax matters within the firm. You will lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, own client relationships, and champion the adoption of technology and scalable processes that position the firm for continued growth.

- Advise clients on transactional tax matters, entity structuring, and tax-efficient planning strategies.
- Stay current on legislative and regulatory changes and translate their implications into actionable client guidance.
Process Improvement & Technology
- Champion the firm's adoption of tax technology platforms to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Identify and implement workflow improvements across the tax compliance cycle — from engagement intake through return delivery and archiving.
- Develop and document standardized procedures, checklists, and quality control protocols that ensure consistency as the team scales.
- Evaluate emerging AI-assisted tax tools and automation capabilities; lead pilot programs and change management efforts.
- Collaborate with firm leadership on pricing, capacity planning, and resource allocation using data and reporting dashboards.
- Drive paperless, digital-first processes and ensure the team is trained and proficient on firm technology.
Team Development & Client Management
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of staff — fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Manage and grow a portfolio of client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for complex accounts.
- Participate in business development activities including proposals, networking, and expansion of existing client relationships.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with the audit and advisory teams to deliver integrated, multi-service engagements.
