Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, job cost reports, and WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules
- Oversee progress billing, retention tracking, and change order accounting
- Support project managers with cost tracking and budget variance analysis
- Review and reconcile subcontractor and vendor invoices for accuracy and compliance with contracts
- Assist in the preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual closings
- Coordinate and support external audits and bank compliance reporting
- Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting processes, and documentation
- Monitor and reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll entries as needed
- Help implement and improve accounting software and systems as the company scales
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in construction or project-based accounting
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, job costing, and WIP reporting
- Experience with AIA billing, retention, and contract compliance
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Foundation, or QuickBooks)
- Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills
- CPA or CPA-track is a plus but not required
