Overview
The Team Lead is responsible for the overall daily operations of the snack bar, gift shop and dive shop, including opening and closing procedures. This role involves supervising and training staff, ensuring exceptional customer service, managing inventory, and upholding all safety and operational standards. The Team Lead is a keyholder and acts as a manager-on-duty in the absence of senior management. Primary station will be in the Diveshop (overview described below).
A dive shop clerk/reservationist clerk often called a retail/sales associate works in the store that sells and rents snorkel equipment, kayaks, paddle boards and beach equipment. The job combines standard retail duties with specialized customer service related to snorkel products. Processes sales using a Point of Sale (POS) system, restocks merchandise, maintains store cleanliness, and provides information about products and store events. The role involves administrative tasks like processing rentals as well as physical work such as setting up and maintaining equipment. A Reservationist handles bookings, customer inquiries, and manages changes for snorkel tours and related services, acting as the primary customer contact. Responsibilities include processing reservations via phone and online, providing detailed information on tours and policies, resolving customer issues, and communicating passenger counts to the on-board team to ensure a smooth operation. Key skills for this role are strong customer service and communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment. Knowledge of snorkeling, snorkeling equipment, ocean/environmental conditions and/or a willingness to learn.
Responsibilities
- Supervise staff: Lead and motivate a team of associates, ensuring all team members are following company policies and procedures.
- Secure the building: Act as a keyholder, responsible for opening the building and disarming the security system, as well as securing and arming the building at the end of the day.
- Manage inventory: Monitor concession inventory levels and restock items during and at the end of a shift.
- Maintain equipment: Oversee the inventory, maintenance, and inspection of all rental equipment, kayaks, paddle boards and snorkeling gear.
- Rentals and sales: Assist customers with equipment rentals, waiver and liability forms, and retail purchases.
- Maintain logs: Ensure all logs for equipment, kayaks and paddle boards, Marina guest, daily weather, trip counts and Captain Log book are accurately completed.
- Ensure food safety: Oversee food preparation, handling, and storage to ensure compliance with all health and sanitation regulations.
- Operate cash register (POS): Efficiently and accurately handle sales transactions, including cash and credit payments.
- Maintain cleanliness: Supervise and participate in the cleaning and sanitizing of all concession areas and equipment.
- Complete checklists: Follow and enforce standard operating procedures for opening and closing, including preparing cash drawers, end-of-the-night deposits, powering on/off equipment and systems, and restocking supplies.
- Prepare reports: Accurately complete required daily paperwork and reports, including sales totals, inventory updates, and cash reconciliation.
- Perform building walkthroughs: Conduct opening and closing inspections to check for safety hazards, ensure cleanliness, and verify that the building is ready for guests.
- Manage performance: Provide recognition and performance feedback to team members.
- Resolve conflicts: Address and resolve customer complaints and minor staff issues professionally.
- Communicate effectively: Serve as the main point of communication for the team and relay information to upper management.
