Hours: 4, 10-hour days; Monday - Friday - included in intermittent evening and overnight call rotation at St Charles Redmond Hospital
Wages: Starting wage $45.12 depending on experience, education and internal equity of current employees

Job Description:
The MRI Technologist operates 1.5T and 3.0T MRI equipment to produce detailed images of internal body structures by carefully positioning patients, administering contrast dye when necessary, and following physician orders to generate diagnostic images for medical analysis; essentially playing a critical role in patient care by ensuring proper imaging procedures while prioritizing patient comfort and safety. Our MRI technologists can work in various clinical environments, such as hospitals, diagnostic imaging centers, mobile MRI units, or physicians’ offices.

Essential Duties:
This position requires regular reliable attendance and requires a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, knowledge, and confidentiality.  
  1. Operate MRI imaging equipment in accordance with established protocols and procedures. 
  2. Research implant MRI safety and makes the necessary adjustments to protect the patient in the MRI.  
  3. Administer contrast media. 
  4. Perform venipunctures for the administration of I.V. contrast. 
  5. Lift and position coils with equipment and personal safety in mind.  
  6. Interact with radiologists to ensure quality imaging and appropriate patient care. 
  7. Communicate to all MRI technologists and MRI Manager any equipment issues. 
  8. Maintain documentation to ensure compliance with ACR and other registry bodies. 
  9. Assist radiologist performing imaging and invasive procedures (MR-Guided Biopsy).   
  10. Provide patient-centered care and educational instruction to patients.   
  11. Verify correct patient using double identifier method. 
  12. Verify patient record is up to date and accurate.  Initiate appropriate updates when necessary. 
  13. Assist with other clinic needs, including pre-appointment order review, telephone inquiries, and data entry. 
  14. Required to maintain current state license through OBMI and ARRT. 
  15. Must have the ability to work cohesively with others. 
  16. Must be flexible with work schedule as hours and/or location may vary.
  17. Cover overnight, weekend, or holiday call at SCMC Redmond and/or SCMC Bend
  18. Other duties may be assigned. 
Key Responsibilities:
This position requires licensure by the State and/or certification by ARRT/ASRT and must abide by OBMI’s Scope of Practice (see below) and ARRT/ASRT’s Scope of Practice and Ethical Guidance (see respective websites).
 
“OBMI defines the scope of practice in medical imaging as the use of ionizing radiation, ultrasound, radio waves, or magnetic fields upon human anatomy for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. This includes the physical position of the patient, determination of exposure parameters, handling of ionizing radiation equipment, and workplace conduct. The OBMI requires that all medical imaging professionals have an active Medical Imaging License or Limited Permit to legally perform any type of medica imaging in any modality. Compliance with this law is mandatory, and failure to do so may result in civil penalties and a permanent record of disciplinary action against a Licensee or Permit holder.” 

Education and Experience:
Required: ARRT, CPR and OBMI License. 
Preferred: 2 years MRI and GE Experience 

Typical Physical Demands
 
These typical physical demands are required with or without accommodation.
Requires full range of body motion.
Stationary position
  • Must be able to remain in a standing position for up to 95% of a workday. 
  • Sit-to-stand desks are available to all employees if the workstation has space to accommodate without obstruction to patients.
Move, Transport
  • Frequently assists in patient mobility.  May often transport patients in wheelchairs, on a gurney, using a Hoyer Lift or Gimme-A-Lift device.  Often transports diagnostic devices and patient care supplies of varying weights and occasionally moves paper/boxes of varying weights, up to 50 pounds.
Move or Transverse
  • Constantly moves about the inside of the office/exam rooms for patient care and to access supplies and various diagnostic/office machinery, etc.

  • Constantly operates diagnostic machines and/or other office productivity machinery, such as a computer, iPad, copy machine, printer, etc.

  • Frequently communicate with physicians, patients and coworkers who have questions about exams, preparations, or other patient care needs. 
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

  • Must be able to visually see patient to position or assist and identify changes in patient’s wellbeing. 
  • Must have the ability to read orders or other communications on the patient’s and clinic’s behalf.
Exposure to work
  • Normally work indoors.
  • Must be able to safely work in an active MR environment 
  • Occasionally will take patients outdoors in the event we are using mobile scanners or transporting items to laboratories
