Positions require:
- All coaches are required to have a Type 10 or Type 20 drivers’ certificate unless a medical condition prevents their ability to obtain.
- Interscholastic Coaching Course or previous ASEP/NFHS Certification
- Background/criminal history clearance
- Concussion Management Certification
- Anabolic Steroid Certification
- First Aid card
- Interrupting and Preventing Discriminatory Acts Training
- OSAA Heat Illness prevention
COACHING STANDARDS: THE EXPECTATIONS
- THE COACH IS PROFESSIONAL
- Is ethical and respectful to athletes, competitors, parents and officials.
- Follows all the rules and school district expectations.
- THE COACH COMMUNICATES WELL
- Communicates effectively with athletes, parents and district staff.
- Maintains an openness to athlete and parent concerns and facilitates appropriate parent and athlete meetings.
- THE COACH CAN PROVIDE A SAFE STRUCTURE FOR THE ATHLETES
- Appropriately supervises students in locker rooms, training areas and while being transported.
- Organizes practice sessions and other activities with attention to individual and group safety.
- THE COACH CAN MANAGE THEIR SEASON
- Is effective at managing or assisting with finances, scheduling, transportation and other responsibilities.
- Provides an adequate system for management of equipment.
- THE COACH IS KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THEIR SPORT AND CAN CREATE COMPETITIVE TEAMS
- Is effective at teaching skills and strategies to athletes
- Can prepare a team for their opponents
- Can make adjustments during competition
- Abides by district and OSAA sport specific rules
- The coach can create a team where higher and lower skilled athletes alike are team orientated and are motivated by the team concept
