Positions require:
• All coaches are required to have a Type 10 or Type 20 drivers’ certificate unless a medical
condition prevents their ability to obtain.
• Interscholastic Coaching Course or previous ASEP/NFHS Certification
• Background/criminal history clearance
• Concussion Management Certification
• Anabolic Steroid Certification
• First Aid card
• Interrupting and Preventing Discriminatory Acts Training
• OSAA Heat Illness prevention
COACHING STANDARDS: THE EXPECTATIONS
1. THE COACH IS PROFESSIONAL
· Is ethical and respectful to athletes, competitors, parents and officials.
· Follows all the rules and school district expectations.
2. THE COACH COMMUNICATES WELL
· Communicates effectively with athletes, parents and district staff.
· Maintains an openness to athlete and parent concerns and facilitates appropriate parent
and athlete meetings.
3. THE COACH CAN PROVIDE A SAFE STRUCTURE FOR THE ATHLETES
· Appropriately supervises students in locker rooms, training areas and while being
transported.
· Organizes practice sessions and other activities with attention to individual and group
safety.
4. THE COACH CAN MANAGE THEIR SEASON
· Is effective at managing or assisting with finances, scheduling, transportation and other
responsibilities.
· Provides an adequate system for management of equipment.
5. THE COACH IS KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THEIR SPORT AND CAN CREATE COMPETITIVE
TEAMS
· Is effective at teaching skills and strategies to athletes
· Can prepare a team for their opponents
· Can make adjustments during competition
· Abides by district and OSAA sport specific rules
· The coach can create a team where higher and lower skilled athletes alike are team
orientated and are motivated by the team concept
