SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTIONS
Under the direct supervision of the Information Services Director, the Senior Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the Coquille Indian Tribe’s enterprise network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, robust security, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
This position oversees network architecture and daily operations, including systems design, policy enforcement, and data protection. The Senior Network Engineer provides supervision and mentorship to the network team, managing scheduling, payroll, and training opportunities.
The role requires advanced technical expertise in routing, switching, and security, as well as the ability to lead complex modernization efforts and cross-functional projects. The Senior Network Engineer plays a key leadership role in maintaining reliable and secure network services across the Tribe’s enterprise systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Network Design & Implementation
- Designs and implements new technology solutions and improves the resilience of the current network environment.
- Architect new technology solutions and improve the resilience of current environments.
- Develop scalable networking solutions for both physical and virtual environments.
- Create and review network design plans to ensure alignment with organizational standards and best practices.
- Deploy and configure network devices including firewalls, switches, and access points.
Design, implement, and support production LAN and WAN environments utilizing a variety of standards and architectures.
Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee network operations and maintenance to ensure high availability, performance, and stability.
- Proactively monitor performance dashboards, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate timely resolutions.
- Manage incident, problem, change, capacity, and performance processes related to network operations.
- Execute firmware and configuration updates, ensuring proactive monitoring and documentation.
- Maintain network health and stability for Data Center and WAN infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
Leadership & Supervision
- Provide day-to-day supervision and direction for the network team.
- Manage scheduling, payroll, and workload assignments.
- Mentor staff and identify professional development or training opportunities.
- Promote collaboration, accountability, and high technical standards across the team.
Security & Compliance
- Stay current with cybersecurity risks, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
- Safeguard critical data and communications through consistent application of security protocols.
- Design resilient network infrastructure including disaster recovery and failover systems.
- Maintain detailed and accurate network documentation for compliance and audits.
Support & Collaboration
- Provide Tier 2 expert support and handle escalations from the Network Operations Center (NOC).
- Diagnose root causes for complex network events in distributed and cloud-native systems.
- Partner with other departments to ensure effective communication and system interoperability.
- Support technology initiatives and infrastructure projects across the organization.

- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to communicate effectively and use repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Frequently sits for extended periods and occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally stands, walks, kneels, or climbs as required.
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment, with occasional outdoor or off-hours work.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in IT infrastructure management within complex networking environments.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in network capacity planning, security principles, and management best practices.
- Minimum CCNA or equivalent
- Expert-level understanding of LAN/WAN technologies and configuration of routers, switches, and firewalls.
- In depth knowledge and fluency in the following: OSI Model, Static, OSPF and BGP Routing, VPN, SDWAN, DHCP, DNS LLDP, LACP, 802.11x Experience with VPN connections, including IPSec and SSL VPN.
- Experience with both Brown and Greenfield network designs and builds
- Experience managing a small technical team, working with vendors and upper management with varying levels of technical fluency
- Preferred certifications: CCNP, CCIE, PCNSE, or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable leading through technical challenges.
Salary : $90,431 - $135,657
