What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Advisor position at Copperas Cove ISD?
JOB DESCRIPTION
Primary purpose is to advise students and provide guidance in development and completion of each student's personal graduation plan (PGP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
New Student Enrollment
Meet with the student and parent to develop a schedule
Review the records from the previous district for the following:
Credits attempted and earned
Member of any special programs
Assessment information
Verify student name is spelled correctly in Skyward and matches birth certificate
Verify that the social security number is correct in Skyward according to card
Verify student is in the correct cohort
Make a copy of sending school transcript and any test results to give to Counseling Coordinator to build a transcript
9th Grade School Year
Meet with each student and parent/guardian individually to create a Personal Graduation Plan (PGP) and obtain a signature from both
10th-11th Grade School Year
Review the PGP with each student individually and course options for the next school year
Input the courses in Skyward under future course requests for the next school year
If student makes a change to Program of Study, the parent is notified before any changes are made to the PGP
Senior Year
Work with PEIMS office to roll all 8th grade students to 9th grade but keep status inactive
Using the OneDrive create a PGP for each 8th grade student to be accessed during one-on-one meetings at the junior highs in February
Run a report in Skyward for all 8th grade transcripts and record the courses taken in junior high on the PGP in the OneDrive
Run a failure report each third and sixth six weeks reporting period. Schedule a meeting with each student who failed two or more courses or the same course two consecutive six weeks.
Assist the student with a course of action or options for grade repair.
Audit student transcripts each semester for any errors or items that need attention by the counselor.
Receive incoming calls, take messages, and route to appropriate staff.
Process schedule change requests and concerns.
Provide coverage to the grade level secretary when needed.
