About Copper Vine

Copper Vine Wine Pub & Inn is an intimate eleven-room boutique inn above a lively wine pub in the heart of downtown New Orleans. We are a gathering place and a respite: a place where thoughtful food, wine, design, and genuinely personal service connect guests to the city and to one another.

Our three-story home on Poydras Street dates to the late 1800s and carries the legacy of Maylie's, the celebrated Creole restaurant that opened in 1876 and served New Orleans for roughly 110 years. Today, the building's brick facade, flowering vines, balconies, restaurant, event rooms, and guest rooms continue that tradition of welcome in a new form.

The surrounding Central Business District began as Faubourg Ste. Marie - New Orleans' historic American Sector - and grew into the city's commercial and cultural center. It is a neighborhood where historic architecture, major business corridors, restaurants, galleries, entertainment venues, and the city's unmistakable energy meet. Our overnight team protects a small, personal inn within that active downtown setting.

The Role

The Overnight Innkeeper is the calm, capable guardian of the Copper Vine guest experience from 10:30 PM to 6:00 AM. During these hours, you are the primary on property point of contact for inn guests and the person responsible for guest access, late arrivals, safety awareness, quiet, comfort, clear documentation, and a complete morning handoff.

This is an independent overnight role for someone who understands that hospitality does not stop when the restaurant closes. You should enjoy working self-sufficiently, make sound decisions without constant supervision, and know when an issue can be resolved personally versus when it must be escalated.

What “Unreasonable Hospitality” Means Overnight

For us, unreasonable hospitality means caring beyond the basic transaction. At 2:00 AM, that may look like noticing anxiety behind a lockout request, anticipating what a delayed traveler will need upon arrival, following up after an A/C concern, remembering that a noise complaint affects a guest's sense of safety, or leaving the morning team a handoff so complete that the guest never has to repeat the story.

It does not mean ignoring policy or acting outside your authority. It means combining warmth, judgment, ownership, and thoughtful service so the guest feels genuinely looked after.

What You Will Own

Guest service and response. Carry and actively monitor the Innkeeper phone; answer calls and messages promptly; assist with lockouts, comfort concerns, noise complaints, urgent maintenance, and other overnight guest needs with polished, reassuring communication.

Late arrivals. Welcome and check in after-hours arrivals, confirm identity and reservation details, provide keys and property orientation, explain private access and breakfast hours, and make the arrival feel intentional even when it happens well after midnight.

Property awareness. Conduct regular walkthroughs of guest hallways, stairwells, common areas, entrances, and the exterior perimeter; watch for access, safety, cleanliness, noise, lighting, or maintenance concerns.

Access and security. Protect guest privacy, key control, private entrances, and room access. Follow established procedures for emergencies, severe weather, fire alarms, suspicious activity, and escalation.

A calm overnight environment. Keep guest-facing common areas tidy, remove stray glassware or debris, address preventable disturbances, and preserve a quiet, comfortable atmosphere.

Documentation and follow-through. Record incidents, guest concerns, maintenance needs, late arrivals, unresolved items, and actions taken in the approved systems and pass-on log. If you see it, you own it through resolution or a clear handoff.

Morning readiness. Deliver a concise, accurate handoff at 6:00 AM, including guest status, open issues, safety or maintenance concerns, review-risk situations, and anything the Morning Innkeeper or Inn Operations Manager needs to know.

Who We Are Looking For

You are warm enough to make a tired traveler feel at ease and disciplined enough to complete every walkthrough, log, follow-up, and handoff even when the building is quiet. You do not need someone standing over you to maintain the standard.

Hospitality-minded. You find meaning in helping people feel welcome, safe, and cared for.

Service-driven. You listen closely, communicate professionally, and look for the thoughtful next step.

Self-disciplined and self-sufficient. You manage your time, remain alert, follow the checklist, and complete responsibilities without repeated prompting.

Responsible. You protect keys, guest information, access, property, and the trust placed in the overnight role.

Consistent. Your standard does not change because the night is slow, the task is repetitive, or no manager is nearby.

Calm and resourceful. You can assess a situation, prioritize safety and guest impact, solve what is within your authority, and escalate clearly when needed.

Detail-oriented. You notice what is out of place and document facts accurately, including names, room numbers, times, actions, and pending follow-up.

Dependable. Overnight coverage cannot have a gap. Punctuality, attendance, and a reliable transportation plan are essential.

Experience and Qualifications

Previous hotel, inn, guest service, security, residential concierge, front desk, or overnight operations experience preferred.

Strong spoken and written communication skills; able to remain polished and reassuring during guest recovery or unexpected situations.

Comfort learning and using Cloudbeds, Whistle, SALTO, TeamLive/Harri, email, and other property systems.

Sound judgment, discretion, and respect for guest privacy and confidential information.

Ability to work the full 10:30 PM - 6:00 AM shift, including weekends and holidays according to business needs.

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, move throughout a three-story property, bend and reach, and lift or carry up to 30 pounds.

What Success Looks Like

Guests receive prompt, warm, professional help at every hour.

Late arrivals feel welcomed rather than processed.

The property remains calm, secure, clean, and guest-ready.

Walkthroughs and required duties are completed consistently without prompting.

Incidents are handled with good judgment, documented accurately, and escalated appropriately.

The 6:00 AM handoff is complete enough that no guest concern or operational detail is lost between shifts.
