POSITION OBJECTIVE: The job of Principal – K-8 is done for the purpose/s of developing a vision and mission goals; guiding the instructional programs by serving as the school’s instructional leader; maintaining overall instructional and support operations at assigned elementary school including: receiving, distributing and communicating information to enforce school, district and state policies; maintaining the safety of the school environment; coordinating school activities; communicating information to staff; addressing situations, problems and/or conflicts that could negatively impact the school; and, developing school policies.

Other Functions:
Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational policies to achieve organizational objectives; managing major organizational components; and determining the use of funds. Utilization of significant resources from other work units is routinely required to perform the job’s functions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the Organization’s services.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.

SKILLS: Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: plan and manage projects.

ABILITY: Ability is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operates equipment using defined methods. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.
