What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant position at Copper Country Veterinary Clinic?
Veterinary assistants are trained to assist the veterinarian in providing pet-care services offered by the clinic. This position is responsible for appointments, client education, running diagnostics and assisting other team members with patient care. Requirements:
- Take histories, provide treatment to routine problems, and give counseling to clients.
- Collect urine, draw blood
- Take and process radiographs
- Perform routine lab procedures and tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology.
- Assist DVM with physical examinations
- Administer medications, injections and fluids as prescribed by the DVM.
- Record temperature, pulse, and respiration
- Operate electrocardiographic and radiographic equipment.
- Assist DVM in surgery by providing correct equipment and instruments.
- Maintain treatment records and maintenance logs.
- Assist in inventory of all pharmaceuticals, equipment, and supplies needed in the clinic
- Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- This position requires long periods of standing and the ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs.
