PRIMARY PURPOSE:
As leaders in Coppell ISD, school librarians serve as partners with educators to design and teach engaging learning experiences that integrate digital citizenship, information literacy skills, and technology applications. With print and digital resources, librarians lead learners in the curation and sharing of content, as well as foster collaboration with other learners globally. As advocates who promote pleasure reading activities, librarians cultivate the development of lifelong readers. Librarians serve as the information specialist/program administrator for the physical and virtual library environments.

Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.
Teacher and Librarian certification as required by the State of Texas
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to develop training and present information to adult learners
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to use technology tools in professional learning as a model to educators and in instruction with learners
Strong knowledge of technology resources to enhance the learning process, literacy growth, and efficiency
Ability to assist with technology needs such as maintenance and inventory of equipment

Serve as an advocate for the library by communicating the district’s philosophy, vision, and mission in the area of library services to the community and soliciting its support in realizing the mission
Instructional Strategies
Provide leadership, expertise, and instruction in the areas of reading, research, and information literacy skills
Collaborate with educators to integrate information literacy skills throughout the learning process
Guide educators and learners in the ethical use of information as it pertains to copyright law, censorship, and digital citizenship
Promote literacy and the enjoyment of reading
Provide library activities, which extend and enrich the curriculum and encourage independent, life-long learning
Create an up-to-date physical and digital collection of print as well as, digital resources in multiple genres that appeal to differences in age, gender, ethnicity, reading abilities, and information needs
Serve on decision-making teams in the school
Provide staff development opportunities for educators in the accessibility and utilization of available learning resources and in the application of information literacy skills
Administer the library budget allocations effectively and efficiently according to priorities of the instructional program and the established district business practices
Utilize knowledge of the TEKS and collaborate with educators in all subject areas to plan, design, teach, and evaluate learning experiences to integrate state mandated curriculum into lessons
Support campus and district curriculum design initiatives
Continually evaluate the library program and facility in accordance with the Texas State and National Library Standards, working toward exemplary status in all levels of service
Student Growth and Development
Create physical spaces in the library that are comfortable, flexible, collaborative, and supportive of future-ready learning styles
Develop, maintain, and promote the library’s virtual environment so that learners can access library services beyond the hours of operation
Acquire materials not available in the campus library through interlibrary loan as needed for educators and learners
Classroom Management and Organization
Supervise individual and small groups of learners in the library; Classes of learners are jointly supervised with the classroom educator
Ensure support in the library classroom management to optimize the teaching learning process
Schedule the use of the library facility, resources, and personnel to provide point-of-need library experiences for learners through flexible access, thereby ensuring that educators and learners can utilize learning resources in a timely manner
Use effective management principles, including the supervision of resources, and facilities
Promote care and maintenance of library materials, including acquisition, processing, organization, distribution, and deselection/weeding of worn and outdated materials
Communication
Collect and communicate data to inform continuous program improvement while demonstrating efficacy and relevance of the school library instructional program
Communicate with grade levels on curriculum and ways the librarian can support educators in planning and resources available to support lesson design and learning
Communicate positively and professionally at all times
