Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, dental procedures, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and monitoring patient status.
- Communicate with clients about patient care, estimates and care plans, and helping answer any questions about treatments and diagnosis.
- Perform animal restraint and handling with confidence to ensure safety for pets, clients, and staff.
- Conduct laboratory tests, including sample collection, processing, and analysis to support accurate diagnoses.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures such as catheterization, surgical procedures, and wound management to prevent infections.
- Manage dental cleanings by conducting dental x-rays, cleanings, scaling, polishing and potentially suturing.
- Operate radiography equipment to capture clear X-ray images while ensuring proper animal positioning and safety protocols.
- Support pet care through feeding, medication administration, and providing comfort to hospitalized animals.
- Document medical records accurately, including vital signs, treatment plans, and medication administration.
- Assist with technical skills such as performing blood draws, cystocentesis, catheter placement, etc.
- Contribute to team efforts in veterinary critical care situations by providing immediate support under supervision.
Skills
- Strong understanding of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and veterinary critical care procedures.
- Skilled in dog and cat handling techniques and animal restraint methods to ensure safe interactions during examinations or treatments. Fear Free accreditations highly supported!
- Laboratory experience including sample collection, processing, and interpretation of results.
- Knowledge of dental terminology and proficiency in technical skills and practices for comprehensive patient care.
- Experience operating X-ray equipment with attention to aseptic technique and safety standards.
- Ability to perform animal phlebotomy and catheterization and manage various aspects of animal care confidently.
